Detectives from State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Gangs Group, investigating a syndicate involved in the alleged trafficking of cocaine in the south east, have arrested a 31-year-old man charging him with multiple offences, including extortion, and drug and weapons offences.
Operation Oscar Pompeii is a protracted investigation which commenced in August 2016, focusing on the alleged trafficking of illicit drugs primarily into the Gold Coast and South Brisbane areas.
The operation has focused on a middle eastern organised crime network who has allegedly regularly used violence associated with their drug trafficking. It is alleged the 31-year-old is a significant figure in this network and his arrest will have an impact on their operations and activities.
Detective Superintendent Roger Lowe, Commander of the Organised Crime Gangs Group said this is a clear message to those involved in the network, no-one is untouchable.
