South Brisbane District’s Cross Cultural Liaison Officer Sergeant Jim Bellos has been awarded the prestigious 2018 News Corp’s State Sports Star Award in the category of Service to Sport.
The award was presented at a gala ceremony at the Queensland Cricketer’s Club earlier this week.
With over 200 nominations from across 17 newspapers, the competition was fierce for this prestigious award.
Sergeant Bellos was selected for his involvement with the world game (football), which has flourished into a model example of bringing communities together.
“We all know that sports have the capacity to bring people together in a spirit of healthy competition,” Sergeant Bellos said.
“Used in the right way, sport can be an influential power for change, giving young people skills and providing life lesson for the future. Sport can build bridges between communities.”
Sergeant Bellos said he was completely surprised to hear his name announced when this category.”
