There have been a number of recent break and enters to homes and garages in the suburbs of South Brisbane including: Balmoral, Hawthorne, Bulimba, Annerley, West End and surrounds, where thieves are targeting and stealing bicycles.
Offenders have entered onto private property and into homes and unit complexes through closed but unlocked garages and insecure communal and carpark areas.
Bicycles have been stolen from backyards, inside garages and homes and from unit complex secure garage areas.
Police are urging bike owners to take extra security precautions to reduce the chances of becoming a victim. Here are their tips:
DO NOT leave insecure bicycles in garages that can be seen through a window
Lock your garages even whilst at home
Lock internal doors from garage into the house
Ensure security is maintained in unit complex communal areas & car parks
DO NOT leave valuable items in unsecure areas of car park/garage
Check automatic doors close completely so potential offenders can’t
