Police Liaison Officers took time out of their day to attend local Vaisakhi Celebrations at the Rocklea Showgrounds last weekend.
The Sikh New Year Festival of Vaisakhi (also known as Baisakhi) is one of the most significant dates in the Sikh Calendar. The celebration marks the start of the Punjabi New Year and the anniversary of the year (1699) when Sikhism was born as a collective faith tradition. For farmers in Punjab India, this period is an opportunity to give thanks for the past year’s plentiful harvest and a chance to pray for good yields in the year to come.
Over 2,500 attendees graced the colourful event with performances from several local and international talents. Crowds were on their best behaviour with lively music, fresh food and dance on display long through the night.
Many thanks to the organisers for their hard work behind the scenes.
