The Rotary Top Cop Award recognises police officers who go above and beyond within their communities and is nominated and voted for by members of that community. The award comes with $500 that is donated to the award winners chosen charity.
In 2012 Senior Constable Kerri Edwards was the recipient of the Pine Rivers Rotary Top Cop Award and she donated her winnings to the Cancer Council Queensland on behalf of her friend and co-worker Kika Lesa who was battling breast cancer.
Sadly Kika lost the battle not long afterwards and left behind a husband and three beautiful children.
When Senior Constable Kerri Edwards won it again this year she asked Elisa Lesa, the daughter of Kika, if she would mind being present when she donated the award money again to the Cancer Council Queensland.
Elisa agreed and said she was proud to be there in memory of her mum.
