In the first of its kind, police from the Upper Mount Gravatt Station will be participating in a language course to learn Mandarin Chinese in a Queensland Police Service (QPS) lead initiative aimed at meeting the diverse needs of communities within its patrol division.
With some suburbs in the Upper Mount Gravatt Police Station catchment possessing close to 30% mandarin speaking population, officer’s will participate in a unique language course aimed at policing experiences and language required to maintain positive interaction between police and the Chinese community.
The QPS often aims to recruit and post officers with beneficial and unique skill sets to particular areas that will compliment and use those skills. The completion of this language course will be a unique extension of that concept in order to ensure officers maintain an effective response to varying community needs.
