Police warn tradies to lock up their tools following recent increase in thefts – South Brisbane and Logan districts

Police are warning tradies to secure their tools and equipment after intel assessments of recent stealing offences in the South Brisbane and Logan districts identified a spike in the theft of tools from trade vehicles.
Detective Inspector Owen Elloy, East Crime Group, South Brisbane District said there has been a recent increase in tools stolen from trade vehicles parked in driveways and on the streets.
“It is evident from the information we have that tradies are being targeted with thieves breaking into their utes and vans and stealing hundreds of dollars worth of tools.
“Unfortunately, tools are easily re-sold and have a good re-sale value, making them valuable items for thieves,’ Inspector Elloy said.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, December 5, thieves stole tools from vehicles parked in Aquila Street (x2), Hayman Road and Melrose Court at Redland Bay. The equipment stolen included a compressor, jackhammers, drills and various tradie tools.
