Operation Wake Up, Be Street Wise has rocked South Brisbane once again!
In shopping centres across South Brisbane, Police, Volunteers, Police Liaison Officers and even recruits are helping to spread the key messages involved in be street wise:
Always be aware of your surroundings;
Remove headphones when walking (or at least one);
Be confident; and
Trust and act on your instincts.
I was lucky enough to be at the Inala Civic centre where I met the lovely Connie and June.
These ladies have lived in Inala for more than 50 years, and don’t plan on leaving any time soon.
We discussed Operation Wake up, Be Street Wise key messages around safety on public transport including sitting where you feel the most safe.
Some steps you can take include sitting near the driver or train guard, if there is a chair available there.
Also let someone know where you are and when you can be expected at your destination.
