Moped madness, Riverside

In the past five weeks, 26 motorcycles have been stolen in the Riverside Patrol area which covers Annerley, West End, Cannon Hill and all the suburbs in between.
Of those 26 motorcycles stolen 13 were located. For those that are good with math, that’s a 50% recovery rate. This sounds good until you realise that most of the bikes are damaged to a certain extent.
Of the 26 motorcycles 12 of the them are mopeds. Most of the motorcycles recovered are also mopeds suggesting  mopeds are stolen from convenience more than anything else.
The ease at which they are stolen may be because people are less inclined to put a wheel lock or ignition lock thinking they are just a cheaper alternative.
Moped riders enjoy relatively low cost transport but factor in the cost of repairs after the mopeds are located and any savings you may have had are gone.
