Local Police visit South Brisbane Sikh cultural hub

On Friday August 23, officers from across the South Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan Police Districts had the opportunity to visit and engage with the leaders and patrons at the Brisbane Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) and the Sahara House women’s refuge shelter.

The iconic place of worship started its congregation in 1988 and ever since, the Sikh community has grown in significant numbers.
The purpose of the visit itself was to help break down barriers between the service and the Sikh community as well as to identify and address community concerns relating to family and domestic violence, crime prevention and safety.

Founder and Manager of the Sahara Women’s Shelter, Jatinder Kaur led the discussion on Domestic and Family Violence during the visit to refuge and alongside her son, introduced officers to attendees at the Langar (community kitchen) during the visit to the holy place of worship.
