In the last few days South Brisbane police have had responded to incidents where unsuspecting sellers have become victims of robberies.
Sellers typically advertise an item for sale on online classified sites and then correspond in relation to the sale and purchase of these advertised items with the buyer.
During these conversations arrangements are made to view the items and negotiate purchase at an agreed location. Recently when sellers have met with the potential buyer the seller has become a victim of robbery.
These offenders have targeted electronic items such as laptops and smart phones and will attempt to dictate time and place of exchange.
They normally work in groups and will try to isolate the seller and are prepared to use physical force to illegally obtain the property from you. The profile pictures on the classified sites are most often not the persons who commit the offence and a story to dispel concern
