Counterfeit cash warning, Southside

Police are investigating the use of counterfeit $50 and $100 notes to unknowing businesses across Brisbane’s southside.
Many of the notes look genuine with some having watermarks on them. It is often hard to know until they’re held, where a slight difference can be felt in thickness, texture and weight.
Visually, the main difference is in the quality of the printing of the stars on the little window. Often, they have slight smudging as if they’ve been made with liquid paper. No Australian currency has a foreign language on it.
Since July 1 there have been 47 cases of forged notes being used across the southside and 142 cases since the start of the year.
So far the notes have been used at a wide variety of businesses including both large retailers and small family owned operations.
All retailers should spend just that little bit of time to look at the notes they’re given to
