Backpackers engagement at Stanthorpe

The Warwick District Crime Prevention and South Brisbane District Cross Cultural and Police Liaison Unit continues to support local backpackers through the bi-annual community BBQ meet and greet.
The initiative is organised by Southern Downs Regional Council in partnership with local stakeholders and with support from Gillian Hu, Assistant Director of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Brisbane.
Stanthorpe, the host of the event, is a Queensland regional town growing and supplying fruit and vegetables across the nation every year.
The harvesting industry attracts hundreds of working holiday makers as fruit and vegetable pickers in the area.
They congregate here in the picking season from October through to May with the peak season occurring between December and April.
As part of this program Taiwanese and Chinese speaking Police Liaison Officers from Brisbane have developed and distributed multilingual translated safety information fact sheets and booklets and responded to the community inquiries in the their languages.
