As a police officers, we get to see all walks of life and often we get to see and hear the worst of the worst. In my role as a Crime Prevention Officer I deal daily with people who have been victims of crime and I count myself as being very lucky to be able to provide some support and assistance to those who are going through a difficult experience.
Just last week, I heard a heart breaking story. I made a visit to a 77-year-old female from Mount Gravatt who had become a victim of the phone scam which resulted her in losing over $14,000. This lady was just like my grandmother, a good person who was trusting and kind, however was manipulated into handing over her bank account details and kept on the phone for close to 6 hours whilst the ‘scammers’ instructed her to purchase a quantity of Itunes
