This morning, South Brisbane District Crime Prevention staff along with members of the Rail Squad and Cultural Support Unit took the opportunity to ride alongside commuters utilising trains within the South Brisbane District as part of Operation Wake Up, targeting safety.
This mornings message was about personal safety on public transport and while ‘out and about’ in Brisbane.
Many commuters took the opportunity to chat with police during their ride into the city while children were given a small token to wear. Many commuters commented positively on seeing police on the train and train platforms.
Sergeant Christopher Hebblethwaite said these types of positive engagement not only provided the opportunity to support, interact and educate but also the police presence discourages antisocial behaviour and enhances feelings of safety.
Over the next few weeks, police will continue to meet with members of the public at numerous planned events throughout the South Brisbane District for Operation Wake
