I was working a 9am to 5pm shift and my partner and I were out collecting CCTV vision when there was a call on the radio asking a crew to attend a traffic crash on Logan Road. A regular call on what would turn out to be a not so regular day.
This is my sliding doors moment.
The time was 1.40pm and we knew the next crew didn’t start until 2pm, and my partner and I had already discussed that we would cover any jobs during the changeover so we got on the radio and proceeded to the crash.
We had only just started driving when the job got upgraded from code 3 (driving at the speed limit) to code 2 (using lights and sirens) because the rider of the motorbike was injured and lying on the roadway, unable to move.. never a good sign.
