Restrictions Update | Sunday 8 August

Dear Friends and Parishioners,

We have always strived to ensure public Mass is provided as soon as restrictions have made it possible.

There have been several difficulties with the way the current restrictions have been imposed and will be enforced.

We were expecting the 100% ticketed capacity imposed previously when prior lockdowns were lifted, as the Chief Health Officer led us to believe yesterday. However, the State Government has unexpectedly cut permitted capacity limits in half.We now have the problem of having overbooked Sunday Masses and nowhere near enough space or time to allow even those currently booked in to attend. The lockdown restrictions have been given with almost no notice making it impossible for us to be prepared. We have been informed by a reliable source that the police have been instructed to and will be:Heavily enforcing capacity limits in all buildings including churches.Heavily enforcing mask requirements indoors and outdoors, including those with exemptions,

Frassati Gregorian Chant Workshops | Young Adults

The Second Vatican Council teaches that “Gregorian chant is something special to the Roman Liturgy, and should thus be given a place of primacy in liturgical activity.” In this spirit, Frassati have been hosting Gregorian Chant workshops for the Young Adults. It is a wonderful way to encourage actualised participation in the liturgy.

Parish Treasures | Refurbishing High Altar Candlesticks

The High Altar Candlesticks, known by the servers as “The Big Six”, form part of the patrimony of the parish. You may be surprised to learn that they were made here in Brisbane by F J Mole.

In Archbishop Duhig’s time, with the numbers of churches he was building (and needing to furnish!) shipping items from Europe proved expensive and time consuming. So he turned to a local silversmith F J Mole. In 1923, the Archbishop approached and convinced F J Mole to manufacture ecclesiastical requisites for churches. F J Mole then set to work not only designing the items, but even making the tools he would require.

Over time, our Big Six Candlesticks naturally deteriorated and it was time for them to be refurbished. We were pleased to be able to turn to the same company, F J Mole, who

Restrictions Update

The Queensland State Government has mandated new Covid restrictions and a lockdown. In order for us to continue our primary duty to the faithful of administering the sacraments, preaching, and prayer, we are currently required to observe the following: THREE DAY LOCKDOWN

Churches and chapels will be closed from 6:00pm tonight for three days.During this period Extraordinary Form Mass will be live streamed at 9:00am and can be viewed here.Unless the lockdown is extended, Friday Confession and Adoration at 7:30pm will be on as usual.

POST LOCKDOWN

At the end of the lockdown we hope to resume our normal schedule.  At this stage we will most likely need you to continue to book in for Sunday Masses.  We will provide another update when Mass bookings are open.

Please join us in prayer to pray for an end to the restrictions.

Bookings not currently required | Check in QLD App

Due to increased capacity limits we are no longer required to take bookings for Mass; however, Queensland State Government mandates require churches to register attendees using the Check in Qld App giving us until Friday 9 July to transition to using the App. The process to make the Check in QLD App available to use has begun. If you do not have the App, Porters will be available to assist you to check in by alternative means. We continue to appreciate the kindness and respect shown to the porters, who volunteer their time to help, helping us to have as many Mass times as we do. While it can be inconvenient, we appreciate your cooperation in following government requirements, allowing us to continue our ministry to you.
