Counterfeit cash warning, Southside
Police are investigating the use of counterfeit $50 and $100 notes to unknowing businesses across Brisbane’s southside.
Many of the notes look genuine with some having watermarks on them. It is often hard to know until they’re held, where a slight difference can be felt in thickness, texture and weight.
Visually, the main difference is in the quality of the printing of the stars on the little window. Often, they have slight smudging as if they’ve been made with liquid paper. No Australian currency has a foreign language on it.
Since July 1 there have been 47 cases of forged notes being used across the southside and 142 cases since the start of the year.
So far the notes have been used at a wide variety of businesses including both large retailers and small family owned operations.
All retailers should spend just that little bit of time to look at the notes they’re given to

This week is Child Protection Week.
Protecting children means a lot of different things to a great many people, but to the police officers who work at the frontline of child victim-based crimes, protecting children is the reason they get up every morning.
These officers see the worst of the worst, become intertwined in the terribly sad stories and witness first-hand the trauma that extends far beyond the day of the crime.
They are investigators, they are listeners and they are often the foundation of support for the victim who takes the bravest step to stand up and speak out.
We are using this week as a way to thank these men and women, to shine a light on the officers across the state working in the Child Protection Investigation Units for their commitment, their drive and the countless hours they spend working to keep the most vulnerable members of our community
