The 5km run along the Bulimba Creek pathway starts at 7am.
Parkrun is a free event held every Saturday for people of all fitness levels and abilities.
The run is an opportunity for us to connect with the community and to highlight police health, both physical and mental.
Members of the public dress up in their best ‘robbers’ outfit while police will be running in a variety of uniforms – with some running in their full kit!
It’s a great morning where the community can ask questions and speak to police about issues.
This year there will be members from recruiting to answer all your questions about becoming a police officer.

Goodstart Early Learning visited by Carina Police

Yesterday the officers from the Carina Police Station were lucky enough to be invited to ‘Show and Tell’ at the Goodstart Early Learning centre at Carina.
Sergeant Shayne Rolph and Constable Andrew Kitas attended and spoke to the kids regarding a whole range of topics.
Sergeant Rolph and Constable Kitas spoke with the kids about personal safety, stranger danger and many other topics raised by the kids.
Undoubtedly the most popular police presence of the day, though, was the large shiny Police vehicle.
The kids were thoroughly entertained by their local Police and their big van.
The officers from the Carina Police Station are very happy to receive these types of invitations from the community and try to attend as many as possible.
Thank you Goodstart Early Learning! We had a great day.

Around 7.40pm a man and woman, both aged 59, were inside a Kawana Street home when they heard noises coming from their garage, which turned out to be a male neighbour allegedly armed with a machete.
As they were contacting police the man allegedly smashed glass louvers at the front of the house before hacking and eventually breaking a wooden entry door.
The pair fled to the bathroom, locking the door and barricading themselves inside.
The man, now inside the residence, allegedly began hacking at the bathroom door with the machete. At one point the blade went through a gap in the door striking the 59-year-old man in the head causing a laceration to his face.
An off-duty police officer who was in the nearby area heard the commotion and

Living safely in your apartment

When it comes to security, high-rise buildings and apartments are just as vulnerable as other residential homes.
No matter how many security measures have been put in place, poor security habits by residents can put the whole building at risk.
Good habits such as care, vigilance and common sense cost nothing and are highly effective in helping reduce crime.
Some strategies to help prevent crime and keep everyone safe in multi-residential dwellings are:

Know your building manager – have the manager’s number in your phone in case you need to contact them in an emergency;
Know your neighbour – a good neighbour can contact Police to provide information about suspicious activity;
If you are accessing the building – either on foot or in your vehicle – do not let a stranger enter in behind you. If they are a legitimate resident, they will have their own access fob/key;
If a stranger requests entry through the intercom system,

New cameras to make Queensland roads safer

New combined red light speed cameras will be installed at high risk intersections statewide from today.
Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating said the sites were carefully selected by the Queensland Police Service and Transport and Main Roads based on the number and severity of speed and red-light-related road crashes at these locations.
“The Queensland Government is committed to road safety and the reduction of road trauma on our communities,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“By working together, we will continue to create safer roads for Queenslanders.”
Assistant Commissioner Keating said the combined red light speed camera technology would detect motorists who disobey the red traffic light, as well as motorists who speed through the intersection. This means cameras will not only detect a motorist speeding through red lights but also green and amber lights.
“All motorists have a responsibility to drive safely to ensure all Queenslanders get to their destinations safely,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“These cameras will

New bicycle patrols, Carina Division

The Carina Police Station has re-commenced push bike patrols in the local Police Division with Senior Constable Jake Ostini and Constable Matt Rogers deploying for operational duties today.
A recent spike in calls for service along bike paths and local park lands has led to the re-invigoration of the Carina Police Station Bike Squad.
Officers at Carina have undergone a specific skills training course for these deployments.
They are equipped with all of the same operational accoutrements as the officers in our patrol vehicles, but with one major difference – pedal power not horse power.
Bicycle patrols will be a permanent feature in the Carina Division with plans to expand our current crop of bicycles from 2 – 5 in the coming months.
As well as operational taskings and general patrols, our bike cops will be deployed at local schools, shopping centres and parks to increase our community engagement levels.
