First patrol for newest mounted police officer
Anywhere, anytime, any police officer
There’s a bit of a difference to Senior Constable Paul Ovreseth’s step this shift. It’s a four-beat step. On a horse.
Sergeant Teala Muller and Senior Constable Ovreseth took to patrolling Forest Lake (Oxley Division) today in order for the newest Mounted Police officer to ‘learn the ropes’. The logistics of carrying everything you need to do the job from the back of a horse proved a challenge for Senior Constable Ovreseth who is used to working from a vehicle and completing paperwork at a desk.
RBT, licence and registration checks
“Members of the community enjoyed seeing the horses and interacting with us,” he said. “They approached us and were genuinely interested in who we are and what our role is. I’m not used to this side of policing but it’s great.”
Following some random breath tests, street checks and community engagement. the horses made their way over to Forest Lake Shopping Centre, checking vehicles were secure and providing

A sliding doors moment, Operation Wake Up
I was working a 9am to 5pm shift and my partner and I were out collecting CCTV vision when there was a call on the radio asking a crew to attend a traffic crash on Logan Road. A regular call on what would turn out to be a not so regular day.
This is my sliding doors moment.
The time was 1.40pm and we knew the next crew didn’t start until 2pm, and my partner and I had already discussed that we would cover any jobs during the changeover so we got on the radio and proceeded to the crash.
We had only just started driving when the job got upgraded from code 3 (driving at the speed limit) to code 2 (using lights and sirens) because the rider of the motorbike was injured and lying on the roadway, unable to move.. never a good sign.
I heard the afternoon crew call sign
Exercise caution when buying online
In the last few days South Brisbane police have had responded to incidents where unsuspecting sellers have become victims of robberies.
Sellers typically advertise an item for sale on online classified sites and then correspond in relation to the sale and purchase of these advertised items with the buyer.
During these conversations arrangements are made to view the items and negotiate purchase at an agreed location. Recently when sellers have met with the potential buyer the seller has become a victim of robbery.
These offenders have targeted electronic items such as laptops and smart phones and will attempt to dictate time and place of exchange.
They normally work in groups and will try to isolate the seller and are prepared to use physical force to illegally obtain the property from you. The profile pictures on the classified sites are most often not the persons who commit the offence and a story to dispel concern
Police charge man over romance scam
Police are issuing an urgent warning to the public following an investigation which has uncovered a disturbing development in romance and online scams.
Last night, the Queensland Police Service’s Financial and Cyber Crime Group charged a 32-year-old Durack man following an investigation sparked after a victim contacted police.
Operation Swift commenced following information received from a 34-year-old Brisbane woman who believed she had been dating an offender who had claimed to be a United States soldier.
It is alleged the victim befriended a man she believed to be a U.S Solider on a social media platform in October 2018. Over the course of the following months the victim was groomed into believing the stories provided by the criminal and formed an online romantic relationship.
The victim sent over $200,000 to the “U.S Soldier” via a series of transfers through a money transfer service.
“While this is becoming far too frequent, it is what came next
