Easter road safety stories – “Never attend another one again”

Unfortunately Easter is a notorious time for road crashes in Queensland.
The QPS with the support of other emergency services is currently coordinating a state-wide traffic policing operation designed to reduce the number of serious injuries, fatal traffic crashes and road related crime.
At the April 5 launch of the Easter road safety campaign Commissioner Stewart said research has shown that a high police presence on major road networks during peak holiday periods provided the community with reassurance and served as a deterrent to those engaging in high-risk behaviour.
“Anyone travelling on the state’s highways can expect to encounter police during this period,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“Officers will be out in force conducting roadside testing for drugs and alcohol, as well as covert and overt speed enforcement in high-risk zones.”
QFES Assistant Commissioner Neil Gallant said that QFES members are trained to respond to traffic incidents, however it is the type of event that is

Carina Police provide one-way, anti-theft screws

On Tuesday April 16, officers from Carina Station joined together with their local Neighbourhood Watch Group and Westfield Carindale to combat number plate theft in the Carina area.
Some happy visitors
After some successful promotion of the event, police had a massive line up of eager customers ready to fit one-way screws to their vehicles whilst also receiving some personal and property security information.
It was an excellent opportunity for the community to see their officers performing proactive services such as this and the event also showcased the strong relationships between police and the local Neighbourhood Watch Group.
It was also a very poignant time to re-enforce the Queensland Police Services Easter road safety message to families travelling on our roads this Easter.
Please remember the Fatal Five and slow down to arrive alive – there is no text message or phone call that urgent that you need to endanger yourself, your family or other

Avoid distraction on the roads this Easter, South Brisbane

Do you ever use your mobile phone while driving?
Do you ever sit at the red light and think, I’ll just check my phone?
Do you ever just ‘do a quick check’ to see who that text or email was from?
Do you put your phone on your knee or in the centre console and tell yourself that you are ‘not using the phone in a hand-held fashion’?
Just a short moment of inattention, could be the difference between making it home safely or not.
At the end of the day, distraction can cause accidents, which can cause injuries or death; yours and your families lives are precious.
Taking that split second to look at, or check your phone, could be the last thing you do and it’s simply not worth it.
Not all distractions are related to the use of mobile phones. Many things can take a driver’s attention away from what should be their number
