School is back, 40km/h zones are in effect

School is back in and the Queensland Police pace car has started its rounds again through the South Brisbane District school zones.
After two weeks of holidays, the 40km/h speed limit applies to all school zones.
Please remember to watch your speed around schools and help keep our children safe.
Be sure to allow yourself a little extra travel time and be considerate around crossings with excited parents and children eager for the start of term two.

Easter Road Safety Campaign – full statistics

Phase 2 of the Queensland Easter Road Safety Campaign commences at 0001 hrs on Thursday, 18 April 2019 and concluded at 2359 hrs on Monday, 22 April 2019.

Police ‘pop up’ for road safety at Brisbane Sikh Temple

Officers from across the South Brisbane District gathered at the Brisbane Sikh Temple on Thursday, April 18 as part of their ongoing community engagement strategy for Operation Wake Up, Road Safety.
The stall ‘popped up’ in the evening to raise awareness about the Fatal Five (speeding, drug and drink driving, fatigue and distracted driving) and how to stay safe on our roads during the Easter Holiday period.
The team from the South Brisbane Police Liaison Unit were also on hand to provide timely advise on home and personal safety.

Superintendent Virginia Nelson said roads are very busy during the Easter break.
“We are campaigning very hard to ensure the community is on board in working with us to reduce road trauma on our roads,” Superintendent Nelson said.
Over 200 attendees came to show their support to the Queensland Police, with plenty of conversations, photos, and selfies shared.

Holland Park Division road safety enforcement

During the third week of the 2019 Easter Road Safety Campaign you will see an increase in officers checking your speed in Holland Park Division.
This is just one of our strategies to reduce potential road crash fatalities and hospitalisations.
With our little ones heading back to school next week, its time switch back on where your local 40km/h school zones are and plan your route accordingly.

Operation Wake Up – Easter Road Safety targeting the Fatal Five

Queensland Police hosted a special community pop up event at the River Terrace, Kangaroo Point on April 18 as part of the Easter Road Safety Campaign for 2019.
Minister for Police and Minister for  Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP along with the Commissioner Ian Stewart were in attendance along with their colleagues from the South Brisbane Police District.
Police are urging people that if they are drinking then they are not to drive. Do not become the next road statistic. Minister Ryan asked all road users to make the right decisions this Easter long weekend.

Morningside Police have a few hot brews with the community

The community joined Morningside Police, MP for Bulimba Di Farmer, NHW and our local Crime Prevention Unit to promote road safety on South Brisbane roads over a few cups of coffee. What better way to connect with our community!
Two Coffee with a Cop events drew a considerable crowd to our local cafes providing a great atmosphere to talk about road safety and the Fatal Five, all in efforts to keep our roads safe.
The events were an educational arm of Operation Wake Up that has been commanded by Acting Inspector Bettina Wilson over several months.
The impetus of the operation is to reduce the road toll through educational conversations with our community and relentless traffic enforcement on our roads in South Brisbane District.
The events were a great success and provided a great platform to connect with Morningside community. Check out the great photos!

Attempted murder charge, Forest Lake

Police have charged a man after he allegedly stabbed a man in the chest in Forest Lake overnight.
Preliminary inquiries indicate at 3.25pm an altercation occurred on Forest Lake Boulevard between two men after what is alleged to be a road rage incident during which one man received a single stab wound to the chest.
An 18-year-old Inala man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Police attended a Forest Lake address at 7.15pm and arrested a male occupant.
A 23-year-old Doolandella man has been charged with one count of attempted murder and is expected to appear at the Richlands Magistrates Court tomorrow, April 23.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area of Forest Lake Boulevard near High Street around the time of this offence with dashcam vision to contact police at the Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigation Branch.

Update 4: Homicide, MacGregor

Detectives have located further evidence as part of their investigation into the alleged murder of Dr Luping Zing in MacGregor on April 15.
A search warrant was executed at a Gloxinia Street address in Kingston yesterday.
Upon a search of the property, a stolen 2013 Hyundai Elantra that is alleged to have been used to transport the alleged offenders to the doctor’s address was located in the backyard.
The vehicle has since been seized and towed for forensic examination.
Two men and a teenage boy have been charged with murder.
Police would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance so far during this investigation.
