Home security reminder, Wishart

Police are appealing to residents in the suburb of Wishart to be vigilant with their home security measures after a number of break and enters have been reported recently to police.
Homes in the area have been entered in the early evening hours through closed but unlocked  doors and/or removing or cutting fly screens from windows and forcing their way into the dwelling.
Some of these offences have occurred when the residents were home and offenders have taken cash, handbags, jewellery, laptops and small portable goods.
Police are reminding all residents to ensure they take steps to deter offenders from entering their homes and to avoid offering easy access to your property.
By changing your home security habits and encouraging other members of your household to do the same, you may help to deter opportunistic thieves.

Appeal for information: Property offences, Brisbane

Police have released images of two people who may be able to assist with their investigation into more than 25 property offences in the Brisbane, Logan and Gold Coast areas in April and May.
The incidents include a number of break and enters and stolen vehicles in the Lutwyche, Hamilton and Nundah areas.
Preliminary investigations indicate the man, aged in his 30s and the woman, aged in her 20s, may be staying in Airbnb properties and moving frequently.
Anyone who has seen the man and woman are urged not the approach them, but to call Triple Zero (000).

National Walk Safely to School Day: Jindalee Adopt-a-Cop walking the line with students

Tomorrow is National Walk Safely to School Day and Adopt-a-Cop of nine years, Senior Constable Ben Harm is an important part of the Jindalee school community, facilitating a ‘walking school bus’ every week.
“My main role as an Adopt-a-Cop is to enhance the relationship between local police and the school community,” Senior Constable Harm said.
Each week, Senior Constable Harm leaves the Jindalee Police Beat with his walking shoes on and sets up a ‘walk to school drop off point’ for students to be dropped off at by parents, away from the main congestion zone outside the front of the school.
It’s one of the many programs Senior Constable Harm facilitates for the school.

Carina officers giving blood for Red 25

The Queensland Police Service has partnered with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to save 15,500 lives by June 2020 through blood donation.
Red 25 is the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s group donation program. Together, their members aim to give at least 25 per cent of the country’s blood donations.

Officers from Carina Police Station took it upon themselves last week, to increase the chances of the Australian Red Cross achieving their goal of 5167 donations by June 2020.
After months of planning, a large contingent of officers travelled to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service at Springwood to donate blood as part of this wonderful program.
Many of the offices had not previously donated blood and anxiety levels rose as push came to shove and the donations commenced.

Talking safety at Sunnybank Plaza

On Saturday May 11, officers from the Road Policing Unit and Dog Squad, including PD Quid, a detection dog, joined Sunnybank officers at Hoyts Cinema for a community engagement event.
The aim of this event was to educate local community memebers about road and personal safety, especially whilst out and about. Police took the opportunity to particularly raise awareness for the Fatal Five which are the five contributing factors to the majority of fatal incidents.
Senior Constable Louise Newbould from the Sunnybank Police Beat also had an important message to share with all parents and guardians.
“Please do not tell your kids that if you are naughty the police will take you away,” Senior Constable Newbould said.
“Police want kids to come to us when they are in danger or trouble.
“Next time you are out with your kids and see our officers patrolling, please feel free to approach and talk to us.”

Armed robbery, Rocklea

Detectives have released vision of a utility after a man was robbed at gun point in Rocklea yesterday, Tuesday, May 14.
The 27-year-old Slacks Creek man was walking on Randolph Street at 7.10am when a man approached him and held a black hand gun to his chest demanding his wallet.
The offender stole the man’s wallet and fled in a white Ford Ranger driven by someone else (see attached images and vision).
The vehicle was last seen travelling westbound on the Ipswich Motorway.
Police believe the vehicle may have had false plates attached and are appealing for anyone who was in the area or travelling on the Ipswich Motorway between 7am and 7.30am on May 13 with relevant dashcam vision to contact police.
The man is described as in his 50’s wearing a baseball cap and dark coloured jacket.
Investigations are continuing.

Raising Domestic and Family Violence awareness at Carindale

Coffee with a Cop for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.
May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month and as such, the QPS has a heightened focus on community awareness of the issue.
​The Queensland Police Service is committed to working in partnership with the people of Queensland to provide professional policing services that will, over time, prevent and reduce the incidents of domestic violence in Queensland.
Domestic and Family Violence is defined as behaviour by a person towards another person in a relevant relationship, that is physically or sexually abusive, emotionally or psychologically abusive, economically abusive, threatening, coercive or causes the other person to feel fearful for their personal safety or wellbeing.
One way to achieve this increased understanding and mindfulness, is through positive engagement between QPS and the wider community.

A reminder about bicycle security in South Brisbane

In recent days, multi-level living residents in South Brisbane have had a number of bicycles stolen from underground storage units located in basement parking storage cage areas.
Officers are encouraging all bicycle owners to work together with police as it only takes a few seconds for a bicycle to be stolen. In many cases, when a bicycle is stolen, it cannot be identified and is sadly never returned to the owner.
You can help to reduce the the chance of your bicycle being stolen by implementing the following crime prevention tips:

Ensuring storage cages are securely locked and secure;
Ensure bicycles themselves are locked and secure to something solid within the cage;
If possible securing your bike in a busy, well-lit location area where it can easily be seen and under CCTV surveillance; and
If possible, take off the front wheel and secure it to the frame or back wheel or take it up to your

Police reign supreme in battle of the Emergency Services

On Saturday May 11, the three arms of  Emergency Services battled it out through 5kms of beautiful parkland in Wishart.
The annual Emergency Services Parkrun saw over 450 people attend and take park in what is becoming a healthy tradition amongst the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
Ultimately, it was the police who had first service across the line and taking the trophy.
Whilst the ambos brought the best spirit of the day and won that trophy (which may have been accidentally broken by an unknown police officer prior to being awarded).
The police rounded out the day with winning the ‘most in attendance’ trophy.
Members of the public enjoyed the free sausage sizzle thanks to Councillor Steven Huang before climbing through the fire engine, ambulances and police cars to see how they operate.

The Queensland Police Service says no to domestic and family violence this May and every day

Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month is well underway, with a number of events already taken place, and many more to come.
Candle lighting vigils were held around the state on Wednesday, May 1, in remembrance of the lives lost to domestic and family violence and to mark the beginning of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.
In Brisbane, a candle lighting vigil took place at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs in the open-air amphitheatre, hosted by Kay McGrath, and is just one of many domestic violence related events continuing to occur over the duration of this month.
Commissioner Ian Stewart joined Queensland Police Service members from across the state at the vigil in a show of Queensland Police Service commitment to raising awareness of and preventing domestic and family violence in our community.
Attendees heard moving personal stories of strength, courage and determination from an array of guest speakers.
