Serious assault police, Mitchelton

Detectives have arrested three men and two women following the alleged serious assault of three Queensland Police Service officers in Mitchelton last night.
Shortly before midnight the senior constable and constable had stopped in Osborne Street next to a group who had been asked to leave a nearby licensed premises.
As the officers exited the police vehicle it will be alleged the group became hostile towards the pair and attacked the 35-year-old female senior constable.
It will further be alleged several members of the group then assaulted the 36-year-old male constable as he went to assist the female officer before a man from the group choked the senior constable almost unconscious.
The officers called for assistance and as other police arrived it will be alleged a 25-year-old female constable was also attacked.
All three officers were taken to St Andrews Hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.

Armed robbery, Sunnybank Hills

Detectives have charged two boys following an armed robbery in Sunnybank Hills on Thursday evening.
Shortly before 6:30pm on May 23, a 29-year-old man was reversing his car in a local shopping centre on Beenleigh Street when a boy opened the front passenger door, entered the vehicle and demanded money.
The boy has then also demanded the keys to the car and when the man has refused he allegedly threatened him with a knife, holding it to his throat.
The man has then noticed a second boy who has also demanded money and the keys to the car.
The boys took a sum of money but not the car keys before leaving towards Mains Road and Beenleigh Road.
Today, police charged a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old both from Kingston with a total of 14 charges.

Fatal traffic crash, Forest Lake

A man has passed away after being involved in a traffic crash at Forest Lake this morning.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations indicate around 1.30pm a motorcyclist was travelling west on Johnson Road when the 32-year-old rider failed to negotiate a left-hand bend, left road and collided with a tree.
As a result, the rider was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigations are continuing.

Coming together for Iftar

On Thursday May 16, the Centre for Interfaith and Cultural Dialogue hosted its fifth annual Diversity and Dialogue Iftar Dinner.
A strong crowd of community leaders, government representatives and police personnel enjoyed an array of talented performances and enlightening speeches over a delicious meal, organised by Griffith University and the Queensland Intercultural Society and the Dialogue Institute of Australia.

 
The theme for this year’s gathering was ‘so that you may know one another’, with the event paralleling the global message of peace, respect and understanding that has become synonymous with the Centre.
Dr.  Brian Adams from the Director of the Centre for Interfaith & Cultural Dialogue, kicked off the evening with his usual style and grace as host and Griffith University’s new Vice Chancellor – Professor Carolyn Evans had the chance to welcome attendees to the evening.

Police officers and staff members recognised at QPS awards ceremony

Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services the Honourable Mark Ryan MP and Commissioner Ian Stewart have congratulated officers and staff members from the Queensland Police Service and Public Safety Business Agency who received medals, certificates and awards at a ceremony held at Police Headquarters today.
Minister Ryan awarded Commissioner Stewart with his Third Clasp to the National Medal and 45-Year Clasp to the Queensland Police Service Medal.
“I am very fortunate today to be acknowledging Commissioner Stewart who is the first to receive the Third Clasp to the National Medal for recognition of 45 years of dedicated service to Queensland,” Minister Ryan said.
Commissioner Stewart was the first to receive the 45-Year Clasp and also the first to receive the new style clasp.
After today’s ceremony, all new clasps to the Queensland Police Service Medal will be of the new design that was awarded to Commissioner Stewart today.

Building community relationships on and off the pitch

Recently, Senior Constable Chad McLeod from the QPS Dog Squad, took part in a friendly football match at the Logan Roos Football Club.
This game was significant as those playing come from a diverse range of backgrounds, including some outstanding players from the Inala and Acacia Ridge Somali communities.

Senior Constable McLeod said the players passion for the game was inspirational and he presented several young players with new football gear as a gesture of peace and goodwill.
“It was only fitting to present a band new set of goalkeeper gloves to some of the bets players I have seen in a long time,” Senior Constable McLeod said.
“Out involvement with this game, along with this small gesture, is a great chance for us to build better relationships with our community; and what better mechanism than through this wonderful community-based football club.”

Saying thank you to our Volunteers in Policing

Police from the South Brisbane Crime Prevention office recently hosted a morning tea to say thank you to our Volunteers in Policing (ViPs) whilst also highlighting the important work they do.
By hosting this morning tea, we were able to demonstrate the value of volunteering and the support volunteers provide by working together to tackle big issues and create a positive workplace.
Our morning tea coincided with National Volunteer Week which is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make each year, across Australia.
This years theme for National Volunteer Week is ‘making a world of difference’ which represents the profound impact of volunteers in their communities and society as a whole.
South Brisbane ViPs are invaluable to police and to their communities and offer a range of skills whilst assisting police to reduce crime.

Inala pays homage to local Elders, past, present and emerging

On Thursday May 24, Inala Station joined a network of stations in officially adorning the Look to the Stars artwork and acknowledgement plaque.
As part of a program, local officers were joined by Indigenous Elders to unveil the special plaque which plays homage to the history and contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in the community, as well as recognising the vital work they do in keeping communities safe.

 
Opening up the ceremony was Uncle Albert Holt.
In his Welcome to Country, Uncle Holt expressed his heartfelt gratitude to local police and commended the value of the Look to the Stars initiative for its role it in strengthening the relationship between the Service and the Indigenous community.
As master of ceremonies, Acting Inspector Bettina Wilson spoke on the importance of reconciliation for the emerging community leaders present.

A home security reminder for Seven Hills residents

Police are appealing to residents in the suburb of Seven Hills and surrounds to be vigilant with their home security measures after a number of break and enters have been reported recently to police.
Homes in the area have been entered in the early evening hours through closed but unlocked doors and/or by removing or cutting fly screens from windows and forcing their way into the dwelling.
Some of these offences have occurred when the residents were home and offenders have taken cash, handbags, jewellery, laptops and small portable goods. In some instances offenders have been using the occupants vehicle keys to steal their private vehicles.
Police are reminding all residents to ensure they take steps to deter offenders from entering their homes and to avoid offering easy access to your property.
