Sexual assault charges, Chermside

Carseldine detectives investigating a series of recent indecent assaults in Brisbane’s north have today charged a 25-year-old man.
It will be alleged the 25-year-old Griffin man unlawfully and indecently assaulted five separate women, aged between 21 and 32, in various stores at a Hamilton Road shopping centre on Tuesday.
He has been charged with five counts of sexual assault and expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 1.
Police are appealing for any members of the public who believe they witnessed a man acting suspiciously at Chermside on that day, or believe they were the victim of an assault themselves to contact them.

Korean community welcomes new Police Liaison Officer

On June 11, leaders from the South Brisbane Korean community gathered for a special afternoon tea at the Sacred Heart Community Centre in Runcorn, where they had the chance to meet the District’s newest Police Liaison Officer (PLO) Jeong Hoon Bae.
At the event, a crowd of faith, cultural, political and business leaders were present, including Commissioner Ian Stewart and other police representatives.

Cross Cultural Liaison Officer and Master of Ceremonies, Senior Sergeant Jim Bellos outlined the role of the PLO’s in the most culturally diverse Police District in the State. Senior Sergeant Bellos said that
“Jeong has already been involved in a number of programs and projects since he started,” Senior Sergeant Bellos said.
“Jeong  hit the ground running, his work ethic and passion for supporting those in need are an asset to our already dynamic team.”

Officers join students for inaugural graduation

On June 11, Yeronga State High School was recently host of the inaugural Young Emerging African Leaders (YEAL), graduation for 2019.
The program was a joint project between the Queensland Police Service, AFL Queensland, the Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (R.A.I.L.S) and Yeronga State High School.

Over a dozen young women from a diverse range of African nations took part in the six week program that emphasised team-building, knowledge sharing, peer mentoring and sports participation.
During the Graduation, Chief Superintendent Brian Swan acknowledged the school and participants of the pilot program for putting their hands up to be involved.
“It takes a strong leaders to keep our communities united,” Chief Superintendent said.
“It is through a united community that we can work together to keep our communities safe.”
Darren Allie, Queensland AFL’s Multicultural and Indigenous Engagement Officer said they had learnt a lot from the students their respective cultures throughout the program.

Attempted robbery, Upper Mt Gravatt

Police have charged four juveniles following an incident in a shopping centre car park on Kessels Road in Upper Mt Gravatt yesterday afternoon.
It is alleged around 4.45pm four teenage girls approached a woman and her toddler and demanded the woman’s car keys and made threats of harm. The woman yelled for help and the girls fled when people came to the woman’s aid.
Police located the girls a short time later and charged a 13-year-old girl with stealing, attempted robbery and possessing tainted property.
Three girls aged 13, 14 and 15 were each charged with attempted robbery and possessing tainted property.
The four girls will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Update 1: Homicide investigation, Annerley

Police have charged a 24-year-old woman with murder following the death of a man in Annerley overnight.
Officers were called to a Junction Terrace address shortly before midnight following reports of an alleged assault.
On arrival, a 24-year-old man was discovered on the footpath with life threatening injuries, and despite efforts from emergency services, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A crime scene was declared, and specialist officers are working at the site throughout the day.
An Annerley woman was charged with murder and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court later today.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who saw a man and woman walking together, or separately, along Junction Terrace and Ipswich Road between 6pm and midnight last night to contact police.
Anyone in the area with CCTV or dashcam is also urged to come forward.

Fraud appeal, Brisbane city

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to assist with inquiries in relation to multiple fraud offences.
The man purchased a laptop through an online platform and sent the seller a fake bank transfer confirmation. The seller posted the laptop to a parcel locker at the buyer’s request.
The seller then realised the bank transfer did not occur and attempted to have the laptop returned.
The buyer then pretended to be the seller and collected the laptop from Ann Street in Brisbane City on January 8 this year.
Footage shows the man collecting the laptop shortly after 4pm.
Investigators believe the same man has fraudulently used the identity of another man to open a number of mobile phone accounts.
Police are appealing for anyone who recognises the man or has further information to contact police
Members of the public who use social media and online platforms to sell items are being asked to take

Police are investigating several break-ins and vehicle thefts in the suburbs of Bulimba, Balmoral and Morningside.
Police are urging residents to be vigilant in securing their homes, garages and vehicles. In some occasions, offender/s have also entered secure carpark areas within apartment complexes and targeted multiple vehicles and storage lockers.
Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage at the below nominated dates, times and locations is asked to review their footage and contact police with any information that may assist investigations.

Homicide investigation, Annerley

Detectives are investigating the death of a man in Annerley this morning.

Armed robbery charges, South Brisbane

A man has been charged over the alleged armed robbery of a supermarket and attempted robberies of a fast food restaurant and pharmacy at Mount Gravatt today.
Around 1pm the 39-year-old walked into a Logan Road business armed with a knife and demanded cash.
The man attempted to open the register without success and is alleged to have smashed it before leaving empty handed.
He then walked into a nearby restaurant and approached an employee, demanding they open the till.
The staff member complied, and the man is alleged to have stolen a sum of money before leaving on foot.
The man then entered a pharmacy nearby and is alleged to have threatened an employed before forcing them to open a cash register.
He stole a sum of money before fleeing on foot towards Rise Street.
A member of the public was able to call Triple Zero (000) and advise officers of the man’s location.

Seven QPS officers acknowledged with the Australian Police Medal

Commissioner Ian Stewart and Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP today welcomed the announcement of the seven recipients from the Queensland Police Service (QPS) who will receive the Australian Police Medal (APM) and be nationally honoured for their distinguished service.
The QPS APM recipients share a diverse policing history between them, having served throughout Queensland in a number of roles and areas.
The recipients this year are Chief Superintendent Benjamin Marcus from South Eastern Region, Inspector Anthony Graham from Brisbane Region, Inspector Stephen Pyne from Community Contact Command, Senior Sergeant Kate Teasdale from Southern Region, Senior Sergeant Melanie Wilkins from Ethical Standards Command, Sergeant Glen Gunthorpe from the Commissioner’s Office and Sergeant Megan Owens from Central Region.
All the recipients will be presented with their APM at an upcoming ceremony.
Commissioner Stewart said each of the APM recipients displayed the desired and exemplary attributes of a QPS
