Representatives from the Queensland Police Service (QPS) were honoured to once again, present at the recent Milpera State High School Exit Ceremony for graduating students.

As part of the ceremony, students presented several performances including cultural dances, pop ballads and poetry.
Sergeant Jim Bellos, the Cross Cultural Liaison Officer for the South Brisbane District, presented the QPS Peace Awards to students that have demonstrated respect, courtesy, kindness, cooperation, harmony and compassion to their peers and the wider community.
This term, two outstanding individuals were recognised as the recipient of the QPS peace shield –  Jeremie Mwandu and Francesco Schiavello.
Sergeant Bellos remarked on the Service’s long association with Milpera and how his own family have been involved with the iconic school.
He also teased details of several upcoming sporting initiatives in 2020 where Milpera will be involved.

Next Saturday, Upper Mount Gravatt Police, will be hosting a Coffee with a Cop event…with a twist.
To get into the Christmas spirit, we have renamed out event, ‘Nog with a Cop’.
Members of the public will have the opportunity to come along to the Coffee Club at The Village Shopping Centre on Logan Road, Upper Mount Gravatt between 10am and 11.30am to have a complimentary eggnog (or coffee if your inner scrooge prefers coffee).

This is a great opportunity to meet and speak to your local police, ask them questions and grab some advice on the best way to keep your home safe this holiday season.
Our Road Policing Unit will also be present to share some tips on staying safe on the road as you travel about over the Christmas period.
Rumour has it they’ll also have one of their motorbikes and some gear for you to check out or grab a photo

Police are searching for two people and a vehicle involved in a violent robbery at Calamvale this morning.
Just before 7:30am, two occupants entered a yard on Nabeel Street and kicked through a door that led to a garage.
The resident, a 45-year-old man, confronted the pair and was assaulted with a shovel.
One person threatened him, while the other entered the house and stole property.
The pair stole his 2012 Volkswagen Golf and left the address with another vehicle believed to be linked to the pair.
The 45-year-old man suffered minor injuries and the Volkswagen was last seen in the Forest Lake area a short time later.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have seen the cars involved, is urged to contact police.

Today, officers from around Brisbane arrived at the Queensland Children’s Hospital with a cuddly surprise for children receiving medical treatment.
Over 200 teddies were hand knitted and donated by local craft groups to gift to children who are currently receiving care at the hospital and were then specially delivered by local police officers.
Spreading the Christmas cheer
Today, 11 festive officers arrived at the hospital with Christmas hats and were met with much excitement from the unsuspecting children, who were offered the care teddies and are free to take them home once they feel better.
The Cops Care Teddies initiative is a project that helps children experience the joy of a teddy during a difficult time in their lives.

The project is now in its second year and all started when a community member donated hand knitted teddies to Capalaba Police Station.

Officers from the Upper Mount Gravatt and Riverside District Crime Prevention Units, along with Police Liaison Officers (PLOs) and General Duties officers, held a pop-up table within the Buranda Shopping Village today, Tuesday, December 10.
The event was to engage with shoppers and offer crime prevention advice and resources relating to home security, personal security, vehicle security, scams and identity theft.

The event was a great opportunity to speak with local residents about how to ensure that their homes, vehicles and other property can be kept safe and secure, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
Officers also distributed ‘Lock it or Lose it’ information flyers to over 400 vehicles parked within the village complex.
Police hope that the residents of the area heed the crime prevention advice given, and enjoy a safe and happy Christmas.

The Belong Centre in Acacia Ridge were once again recipients of the latest series of tailored clothes and goodies as part of the Uniforms 4 Kids initiative.
Police Liaison Officer Ricky Lashand and Senior Police Liaison Officer Weng Mun Sum were on hand to donate over 50kg of unique items for young disadvantaged children and families experiencing difficulties.

Trish Cattermole, Director of the Community Centre said that these items have come at the ideal time, and many of the families we support will benefit from this donation.
“Christmas has certainly come early and we are blessed to receive these packs to distribute to those who need it most,” Ms Cattermole said.
This season’s donation also featured non-perishable food items, pencils and wooden toys.

Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP joined Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating for the official launch of Operation Romeo Sleigh today.
The end of the year sees an increase in vehicles taking to the roads as more people embark on family trips and make the most of the holiday season.

This increase in traffic flow will be matched by an increased police presence on the Queensland road network.

Detectives from Dutton Park Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a 29-year-old man with nine offences including child stealing and going armed so as to cause fear following a number of incidents on Brisbane’s southside yesterday afternoon (Saturday, December 7).
The Stretton man has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow (December 9) charged with two counts of child stealing, two counts of wilful damage and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, going armed so as to cause fear, assault occasioning bodily harm, attempt to enter and commit an indictable offence and fail to comply with a requirement to stop a vehicle.
Detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a metallic blue Holden Commodore station wagon driving erratically on Wynnum Road who may have dashcam of the area at the time to contact them (details below).

A 29-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries following a string of offences this afternoon across South Brisbane.
At 5pm, officers were called to Murrarie following reports a man had caused damage to a building on Lytton Road with his car.
It was then reported he had approached several children on Wodonga Street before he fled in his car after he was scared off by adults in the street.
From here the man drove dangerously along Wynnum Rd to a service station at Tingalpa where he assaulted people in the forecourt of the business and damaged vehicles in the parking area.
The man then attempted to force entry to the service station.
Officers were called to the service station where the man was located, armed with a metal bar and he was taken into custody just after 6pm.
He is currently under police guard at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
