QPS honour victims of torture and trauma

June 26 is recognised as the International Day Against Torture, and presents an opportunity for community members from all walks of life to come together to honour and remember those who have experienced torture and trauma.

With our friends at QPASTT (Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors and Torture and Trauma), officers from across the South Brisbane and Logan District joined together to mark this occasion over a special morning tea.
QPASTT Spokesperson Robert Mukombozi invited everyone to tie a white ribbon around a branch of the QPASTT tree.

The QPASTT Tree represents the recovery process from torture and trauma:

The rock on which the tree grows represent the hardship survivors have experienced
The tree represents the process of regrowth, and eventual flowering, for the individual, families and community
The branches reach out and reconnect, feeding the tree’s growth
The colour white symbolises global support for torture survivors, and is the colour of hope.

Acting Sergeant Vernon Wootton from the South Brisbane
