Morningside police promote crime prevention strategies

Morningside Station Police Officers
Police from Morningside are currently promoting home and vehicle security during the school holiday period. It is a timely reminder to prompt residents regarding home security strategies to enhance personal safety and to prevent opportunistic offending or ‘sneak’ burglary offences.
Suggested strategies to reduce the likelihood of being a victim of crime are:

Always lock doors both when absent from your address, and when at home. The use of keys in security doors reduces the likelihood of intrusion.
Always secure windows when absent from the address.
Place vehicle keys in a less obvious place to prevent home vehicles from being stolen in the case of a break in.
Consider installing good quality CCTV cameras both outside and within your home.
Consider installing an alarm system within your home.
The use of sensor lights at the front and rear of your house can deter offenders.

Police are also reminding residence to be vigilant in personal vehicle

Beware of fake Medicare email

Scammers have set up a clone of the myGov website to trick you into sharing your login and bank account details.
The scam starts with a phishing email that looks like it is from Medicare, asking you to update your Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) details, so you can start receiving payments for Medicare benefits and claims.

If you click on the link in the email you are taken a replica of the real myGov website. You’ll note the URL includes ‘.net’ instead of ‘.gov.au’, which is an indication the website is not a legitimate Australian Government domain!
