Do you know how many people were involved in a traffic crash in Brisbane, as a result was treated by medical professionals or hospitalised in 2017?  The answer is 1232.
This year Police from Brisbane Crime Prevention units and Brisbane Bike squads would like to invite everyone to join us on Friday, August 31.
Police will host a pop-up table at the Goodwill Bridge providing road safety tips and also have your chance to tell us about road safety and speak up for road safety. Information about bike and vehicle security will also be available.
We will be there between 10am to 12pm. Please join us, join the drive to make the road safer.

Each year Detectives from Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) take a group of young child survivors who have been a victim of abuse out for a day of adventure. This year we had 12 wonderful children aged between 12 to 17 years of age.
The day started with a yummy breakfast at Bracken Ridge McDonalds. After breaky the kids then jumped back in the Police bus and headed to Australia Zoo.
The children were given entry and VIP treatment from the zookeeper with getting up and close with some of the animals. The kids also got to feed the Kangaroo’s and see some Joey’s in the mother’s pouch.
After feeding the animals it was off to the Crocoseum to watch the big croc in action. One of the kids said “I feel like a king” as he entered the Crocoseum.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious traffic crash this afternoon at Greenslopes.
Initial inquires indicate about 1.40pm a motorbike and a grey small SUV were both headed inbound on Logan Road just after Juliette Street when they have collided.
The 35-year-old male rider of the motorbike was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the grey Hyundia Kona was not physically injured in the crash.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or people with relevant dashcam vision to contact police.

Over 200 faith, cultural and community leaders once again graced South Brisbane’s Greek Club to attend the 12th Annual Queensland Police Service Multi-Faith Dinner on Thursday, August 16.
“This evening truly showcases the rich diversity within the Brisbane Region” Senior Police Liaison Officer Ken Rong said.
“Our faith, culture and community show no boundaries and this event continues to go strength to strength each year.”
The event featured several cultural performances, guest speakers and an inspiring keynote address by Harjit Singh, founder of Turbans & Trust.

Turbans and Trust is an initiative started in 2012 to give people an opportunity to learn a little bit about the significance of a turban and to then to use it as a vehicle to open up a conversation about people, faith, difference and community.

QPS members and Rotary Club representatives
Four QPS officers received awards at the Essential Services Awards ceremony held by the Rotary Club of South Brisbane at the Yeronga Services and Community Club on August 20.
The Essential Services Awards recognise officers from the essential services, such as the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue Services, Queensland Ambulance Service and the Queensland State Emergency Services.
Officers receiving the award have provided a service above their normal duties through their dedication to their vocation and their service and contribution to the community.
The awards were presented to QPS officers by Commissioner Ian Stewart and Chief Superintendent Mick Niland of the QPS and President Judith John of the Rotary Club of South Brisbane.

Senior Police Liaison Officers Weng-Mun Sum and and Li-Shan Huang took time out of their busy schedules to conduct a special home security presentation to over 50 members of the Brisbane Chinese Alliance Church (BCAC) in Rochedale earlier this month.

The BCAC began meeting at Rochedale in 2009 and identifies itself as a multi-congregational, multi-lingual, and multi-ethnic place of worship, with services in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Many of it’s members are second generation Asian Australians who call Rochedale home.
“As our multicultural community grows here in the South Brisbane District, so does the need to tailor our engagement with them,” Senior Police Liaison Officer Li-Shan Huang said.
“Whether it’s in Mandarin, Cantonese or English, crime prevention measures and personal safety advice are the messages that we in the Queensland Police Service preach.”

Police are appealing to residents in the suburb of Rochedale to be vigilant with home security measures due to a number of break and enters that have been reported recently to police.
Reports to police indicate that homes have been entered in the early hours of the morning, through closed but unlocked rear doors, laundry doors and or sliding doors.
Some of these offences have occurred whilst residents have been home and offenders are targeting cash, handbags and small portable goods.
The affected streets include:
Parklands Circuit, Rochedale
Kangaroo Court, Rochedale
Cockatoo Place, Rochedale
Finch Parade, Rochedale

Lock up and reduce your chance of becoming a victim.

Road Safety Week runs from August 27-31 and this year’s theme is ‘Speaking up for road safety – road rules refresh’, encouraging all road users to refresh their awareness of road rules, with road safety reminders for groups including pedestrians, motorists, bicycle riders, heavy vehicle operators and motorcyclists.
Morningside Police are hosting a bike safety event for children, so bring your kids down and join your local police for a friendly bike ride around the bike track.
Where: The Colmslie Beach Reserve
Date: Sunday August 26
Time: 11am-3pm
Children will need to bring their bikes, scooters and helmets to the track to participate in this activity.
Morningside Police are proud to work with our community to build partnerships and promote road safety with our kids.

Detectives have charged two men following the alleged armed robbery of a bottle shop in Brisbane yesterday evening.
At around 6:30pm two men entered the business on Browning Street and attempted to purchase alcohol.
Police will allege when the men were refused service one of the men took a carton of beer and attempted to leave the store.
It will be further alleged when a male staff member confronted the men, one them produced a knife and made threats towards the staff member before fleeing the scene.
Officers attended the scene and took two men into custody at the intersection of Boundary Street and Russell Street at around 7:30pm.
A 40-year-old Spring Hill man has been charged with armed robbery and obstruct police.
A 23-year-old South Brisbane man has been charged with armed robbery.
Both men are due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

A man has sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car at Annerley.
Preliminary information indicates two cars were involved in a collision at the intersection of Venner Road and Lagonda and Frederick streets at around 5.25pm today.
The impact caused one of the vehicles to become airborne and flip. The vehicle came to rest on its roof at the corner of Venner Road and Frederick Street, colliding with a man standing at the intersection.
A 68-yer-old Annerley man was trapped under the vehicle for a period of time before being transported under police escort to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with critical injuries.
The drivers of both vehicles, a 21-year-old woman from Yeronga and a 21-year-old man from Crestmead were transported to the Mater Hospital for assessment / observation.
The woman’s passenger, a 20-year-old man from Yeronga was transported to the same hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
