Local students graduate with Tự Hào
South Brisbane’s Vietnamese Police Liaison Officers, alongside Acting Senior Sergeant Jim Bellos and Inspector Michael Dowdy, were honoured to be invited as guests to the Trung Vuong Vietnamese Language School Annual Graduation and Award Ceremony at Darra State School on Saturday, December 8.
Police and representatives join the graduating children
The Trung Vuong Vietnamese Language School teaches Vietnamese to the next generation of students (grades 1 – 12) in Brisbane.
The program has become a cultural institution and has helped hundreds of students to learn, appreciate and value the beautiful native language of Vietnam.
Every year, the unique school celebrates and congratulates those students for the continual effort and hard work they put in on every Saturday morning throughout the school calendar year.
Well done to all the recipients today.
From all of us here at the Service: Xin chúc mừng! (Congratulations!)
Multicultural Hub celebrate another year with community
The Brisbane Multicultural Centre in Woolloongabba was the place to be on Thursday, December 6 for their annual QPASTT/MDA End of Year Cultural Leaders Dinner.
Minister Stirling Hinchliffe MP addressed the gathering as Keynote Speaker on the day, and the attendees had the chance to enjoy a variety of cultural performances over a lavish meal.
Police at the event
The community leaders forum is a quarterly event that allows cultural, community, faith and religious leaders to engage and network alongside business leaders, government representatives, not-for-profit associations and of course – police officers from across the South Brisbane District.
“Initiatives like these help our District become stronger and more better equipped to overcome the challenges in front of us,” Inspector Michael Dowdy said.
“To quote Coretta Scott King: The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.
“You would be hard pressed to see better example than this wonderful community program.”

Policing at Christmas
We made the nice list this year!
Another Christmas is upon us, a time when people often stop and reflect on the year they’ve just had. For me it’s involved working with some great people and experiencing the best in society and unfortunately the worst in society.
Police will be out in force in the festive season, even on Christmas day to make sure everybody end’s up where they’re supposed to be going.
So while you’re sitting down on Christmas day, enjoying (or enduring) the family time, stop and think about the emergency service workers away from their homes and their families.
Some don’t get to see the faces of their children when they open their presents from Santa, others have to leave their Christmas feast early to be at work on time.
At Upper Mount Gravatt Station, it’ll be business as usual with police spending Christmas day amongst their blue family.

An update from Br Conor in Rome
Buongiorno from Roma! Br Matthew’s and my time in the Eternal City has been moving along very quickly. It is just shy of the two month mark since we left Brisbane. As you can imagine it has involved a rather steep learning curve. However with each week I find myself becoming more and more acclimated with the goings on of the city and the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum). Our studies are well under way and we are currently preparing for several midterms. Only in Rome can one take a study break by visiting one of nearly 900 churches or chapels to be found in the city. Already I have had the wonderful opportunity to visit two art galleries and several important historical basilicas. We learn a great deal in the lecture hall but these trips are just as formative I believe. To be able to spend time in the
