A sliding doors moment, Operation Wake Up
I was working a 9am to 5pm shift and my partner and I were out collecting CCTV vision when there was a call on the radio asking a crew to attend a traffic crash on Logan Road. A regular call on what would turn out to be a not so regular day.
This is my sliding doors moment.
The time was 1.40pm and we knew the next crew didn’t start until 2pm, and my partner and I had already discussed that we would cover any jobs during the changeover so we got on the radio and proceeded to the crash.
We had only just started driving when the job got upgraded from code 3 (driving at the speed limit) to code 2 (using lights and sirens) because the rider of the motorbike was injured and lying on the roadway, unable to move.. never a good sign.
I heard the afternoon crew call sign
Exercise caution when buying online
In the last few days South Brisbane police have had responded to incidents where unsuspecting sellers have become victims of robberies.
Sellers typically advertise an item for sale on online classified sites and then correspond in relation to the sale and purchase of these advertised items with the buyer.
During these conversations arrangements are made to view the items and negotiate purchase at an agreed location. Recently when sellers have met with the potential buyer the seller has become a victim of robbery.
These offenders have targeted electronic items such as laptops and smart phones and will attempt to dictate time and place of exchange.
They normally work in groups and will try to isolate the seller and are prepared to use physical force to illegally obtain the property from you. The profile pictures on the classified sites are most often not the persons who commit the offence and a story to dispel concern

Operation Swift commenced following information received from a 34-year-old Brisbane woman who believed she had been dating an offender who had claimed to be a United States soldier.
It is alleged the victim befriended a man she believed to be a U.S Solider on a social media platform in October 2018. Over the course of the following months the victim was groomed into believing the stories provided by the criminal and formed an online romantic relationship.
The victim sent over $200,000 to the “U.S Soldier” via a series of transfers through a money transfer service.
“While this is becoming far too frequent, it is what came next

Thieves target ‘bicycles’ in South Brisbane Multi-Level Complexes
In recent days multi-level living residents in South Brisbane have had a number of bicycles stolen from underground storage units located in basement parking storage cage areas.
Remember, it only takes a few seconds to steal a bike, so let’s work together to prevent, secure and identify your bicycle. In many cases owners never see their bicycles again simply because they cannot be identified.
Reduce the chances of theft by:
Ensuring storage cages are securely locked and secure;
Ensure bicycles themselves are locked and secure to something solid within the cage;
If possible securing your bike in a busy, well-lit location area where it can easily be seen and under CCTV surveillance; and
If possible, take off the front wheel and secure it to the frame or back wheel or take it up to your apartment.
Help make your bicycle easily identifiable:
When purchasing a new bicycle or your current bicycle, take a photograph, write down the serial number
