Staff from the Sunnybank Police Beat joined with officers from the South Brisbane Police Liaison Unit to hold a special pop-up stall for the District’s Easter Road Safety Campaign on Wednesday April 10.
The stall took place outside the iconic Welcome Fresh Supermarket, located in the heart of Sunnybank Plaza’s Northern Car Park.
Families, visitors and local politicians had the chance to mix with officers and receive timely advice on home and personal safety, as well as information on staying safe on our roads.

Wendy Hung, manager of Welcome Fresh Supermarket said that road safety is everyone’s business.
“As a local business owner, it’s wonderful to see our local police commit their valuable time and energy to educate everyone in our community,” Ms Hung said.

The Queensland Police Service will be hosting two special pop-up stalls in Sunnybank Plaza as part of the South Brisbane District’s Operation Wake-Up for road safety this Easter.
Our first event will be at the Hoyts Cinema (near the food court) on Thursday April 11 from 5pm – 7pm.
Our second event will be outside the Commonwealth Bank on Saturday April 13 from 1pm – 3pm.
The team from the Sunnybank Police Beat, alongside Mandarin, Cantonese and Taiwanese speaking Liaison Officers, will be in attendance to provide safety information to all residents in the community.

Detectives have released footage and are appealing to the public to help locate a man who can assist with investigations into a number of linked property offences across Warner.
Investigations indicate the man may have information in relation to the theft of a grey Mazda 2 sedan from an Ontario Drive address on Wednesday, March 7 after he was seen getting into the passenger seat outside a Petrie bottle shop the following day.
The man can been seen in CCTV footage walking into the Beeville Road business just after 3pm and stealing alcohol before getting into the passenger seat of the stolen sedan.

Police observed the stolen vehicle on Beerburrum Road at Caboolture shortly before midnight when the driver accelerated away at speed.
The man and same stolen vehicle were then involved in a petrol drive-off offence at a Mackie Road service station in Narangba on Friday, March 9.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a serious single vehicle traffic crash involving a moped which occurred in Lytton on April 7.
Preliminary investigations indicate the moped crashed after hitting a traffic island at the intersection of the Port of Brisbane Motorway and Export Street at around 2.40pm.
The rider, a 21-year-old Hemmant man, was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with significant head injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.
No one else was injured during the crash and at this stage no other vehicles are thought to be involved.
Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have seen the moped on Pritchard Street or at the intersection of Port of Brisbane Motorway and Export Street.
Officers are also appealing with anyone with dashcam vision from the area at the time of the crash to contact police.

Police would like to remind residents to be vigilant regarding organisations who ‘door knock’ for donations.
Whilst there are organisations who legitimately conduct this business and do so lawfully, police have recently received reports of a man using this method in an attempt to steal ‘within reach’ items in the Moorooka area.
In one instance, the man requested a drink of water and as the owner left to organise this, the man stole a handbag which was within reach before running off.
Police have received a further report of a man collecting donations for the same organisation and requesting drinks of water from home owners.
Police offer the following advice:

Ensure the door knocker has appropriate identification/name tags and if you suspect they are fake – close the door;
Keep distance between yourself and door knocker by remaining behind a closed and locked security screen door/fly screen;
It’s OK to say “no” to requests for water/food.  If

Over the weekend, the Easter holidays started off with a bang and what better way to celebrate than with Bubble Tea and Easter eggs for all!
Police were pleased to see the community of Runcorn out in their droves at Moge Tee, Runcorn Plaza on Sunday April 7.
Officers from the South Brisbane District Crime Prevention Unit provided free bubble tea to all who attended and also the opportunity to discuss local issues and provide crime prevention advice.
Joining officers from the Crime Prevention Unit were Police Liaison Officers (PLOs), the Road Policing Unit, Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) and of course, everyone’s highlight – Constable Clancy the Koala and Seymour the Neighbourhood Watch owl.

Throughout the event, police spoke with members of our diverse community about home and personal safety in conjunction with road safety, including the South Brisbane initiative, Operation Wake Up.

Last week saw the commencement of the 2019 Easter Road Safety Campaign and the Holland Park Division is ready for the period.
Our Division boasts 18 schools who we engage with through programs such as Adopt-a-Cop and various others throughout the school year.
Last week, in preparation for the school holidays, officers focused on school zone patrols and engaging young drivers who are looking forward to their school holidays.
The message was around driver awareness and considering the safety of your mates while you all try to get one more beach trip in before the cold weather kicks in.
Overall, it was a great week visiting the schools and you can expect to see police out in numbers this Easter period as we ensure our roads are safer for all.
