In the Riverside area, there have been 27 dwellings broken in to over the last week. Most of these breaks were ‘sneak’ breaks where homes were unsecured at the time of the offence.
Police are reminding all residents to remember to lock their doors, even if their home is not on the ground floor after five units were broken into, one on the second floor of its building.
Five underground carparks were broken into, with a number of secure cages entered. Property stolen included electric bicycles.
This week, 12 cars and two motorcycles were stolen, including a 2001 red Lancer from Holland Park and an orange 2019 KTM Enduro motorcycle from West End.
A motorised wheelchair has been stolen from West End this week, with the chair observed on the back of a white utility vehicle.

Christmas comes early for women’s shelter
Community leaders, local police and politicians came together for a gala celebration at Michael’s Oriental Restaurant in Eight Miles Plains on Saturday August 3, to raise funds for the Sahara House.
Sahara House is a first of it’s kind shelter in Brisbane that serves as a refuge for women of Indian origin anywhere in Australia.

Social worker, and manager of Sahara House, Jatinder Kaur said Sahara meant support in Hindi.
“The house is a place for women to get help, social support, advice and a means of moving forward,” Ms Kaur said.

The event, hosted by the Punjabi Welfare Association of Australia, featured over 150 attendees and managed to raise over $30,000 for the shelter.

Have you lost your Grate?
On Friday August 2, officers from the Centenary Property Team executed a search warrant at an address in Darra in relation to alleged stolen property, namely drainage grates, which had been stolen from businesses across Brisbane.
During the search warrant, a total of 134 metal drainage grates and 14 square storm water grates were located.
Investigations are ongoing and police are encouraging anyone with information in relation to the owners of the alleged stolen property to make contact.

Armed robbery, Nundah
Investigations are underway after a man used a firearm to rob a service station at Nundah last night with the community being asked to assist with inquiries.
Around 9.45pm the man entered a Sandgate Road business wearing a balaclava before making demands for money and cigarettes while armed with a handgun.
The 26-year-old male store employee handed over an amount of cash from the till and cigarettes.
The armed man then fled the premises.
He was last seen running towards Hamilton Road.
No one was physically injured in the incident.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, 170 cm tall with a slim build.
He was wearing a navy-blue jacket, black balaclava, black shorts and white shoes.

Armed robbery charges, North Brisbane
A man has been charged with the alleged armed robberies of three bottle shops across Brisbane’s north over the weekend.
Around 9.20pm on Friday, the man walked into a liquor store on Everest Street at Warner where it will be alleged he used a broken bottle to threaten the employee before fleeing with a sum of money and alcohol.
Then it will be alleged the man used a syringe to threaten a staff member at a Burpengary bottle shop around 6pm last night. Money was also stolen during the incident.
Less than an hour later the man entered a licensed premises on River Street at Petrie where it will be alleged he threatened an employee with a syringe and fled with a sum of cash.
No one was hurt during the incidents.
Officers attended a Petrie residence today where a 20-year-old man was arrested in relation to the three alleged armed robberies.

Day of Prayer for the Brisbane Oratory
On Friday 2nd August, the people of our Parish are being asked to pray for the priests and young men of the Brisbane Oratory in Formation. Intercessory prayer, sacrifice and penance are essential in the formation offaithful priests.
To this end, the prayer day will begin at 8:20am (before the 9:00am Mass) with a Rosary led by the Legion of Mary. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will then follow. The church will remain open all day to allow parishioners to pray privately. The day will come to its conclusion following Holy Hour at 8:30pm.
Coincidentally the Portiuncula plenary indulgence may be obtained on this day and is granted under the usual conditions to the faithful who visit a parish church and devoutly recite the Our Father and the Creed. Indulgences are a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1471).

Emergency declaration, Balmoral
Police have declared an emergency situation in Balmoral under the provisions of the Public Safety Preservation Act.
Officers responded to an address on Collings Street at around 12:48pm following reports of a man in a unit making threats.
Preliminary investigations indicate the man is in possession of a firearm.
Officers established an exclusion zone at 1:35pm encompassing Bunawong Street, Grosvenor Street, Riding Road and Main Street (pictured).
Specialist police are on the scene and members of the public inside the exclusion are urged to stay inside.

Riverside week in review
Over the past week, 43 residences were broken in to in the Riverside area, with a number of them having unlocked doors or windows.
Of interest, a kitchen sink was stolen from a home in West End.
In the early hours of Monday July 29, a number of homes were targeted in the Morningside, Hawthorne and Norman Park areas.
Throughout the area, three business were broken into with alcohol stolen.
Additionally, seven other dwellings had property stolen from, including six underground car parks.
Police are reminding all residents to be vigilant with their security, particularly in underground car parks with six bicycles and two motorised bicycles stolen.
Lastly, 14 vehicles and eight motorcycles were stolen in the area, many as a result of keys stolen during break and enter offences.
A number of vehicles remain outstanding including a 1997 Ford Festiva stolen from West End.

Scam targeting students
Indooroopilly Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are seeking assistance in identifying further victims of a scam which seems to be targeting overseas students through social media sites.
In a recently reported scam, the victim was contacted through a Facebook site and offered a job.
The victim was asked to place an amount of money in a bank account to cover the purchase of a uniform for the job.
After depositing the cash, the victim was then asked to provide their personal details to the scammer.
After this was complete the scammer failed to provide the promised job and is un-contactable.
The scammer has been known to use multiple social media sites including Facebook and WhatsApp to contact potential victims.
