With a number of fires burning throughout Queensland police are reminding motorists to limit unnecessary travel and keep roads clear for emergency services.

Fires by their very nature are unpredictable and motorists travelling through active bushfire areas could easily find themselves in quickly changing and dangerous situations.
If you live near a active bushfire area please limit all non-essential travel and re-think your need to be on the roads.
Driving conditions can be dangerous due to hazards such as burnt out trees over road ways, fallen power lines, smoke and dust. Please remain vigilant.
Emergency services are working together to return affected residents to their homes however this can only occur when the risk of fire has been mitigated.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses in relation to an attempted robbery at Tingalpa on November 1.
At 10:45pm, a man entered the Manly Road business and threatened a staff member with a knife whilst demanding money.
The 67-year-old staff member secured himself in the console office and the man left the business empty handed.
The man is described as, 178cm tall, Caucasian in appearance, with a slim build. He was wearing a light grey long sleeved shirt, grey pants with two black stripes down the leg and black shoes. He was also wearing a “devil Halloween” mask.
Any one who has any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact the police.

From this Thursday, November 7, police from West End Police Station on Vulture Street will be moving to a temporary location while a new station is being completed.
The West End Police station will now be located at 6/305 Montague Road, West End.
To call the station, the new number is 3840 9100.
The office will be open to the community from 8am until 3:30pm on Monday to Friday.
It is estimated that police will remain at this station for 18-months until the new station is complete.

Students from Milpera State High School (SHS) graced the Queensland Police Service (QPS) Academy on October 31, as part of the ROLE (Respect Ourselves Leadership and Education) program which is a special initiative between the QPS, Queensland Department of Education and Milpera SHS.
The program links students from the school with police recruit mentors and together, they embark on a journey completing activities over a six week period.

Program coordinator Senior Sergeant Jacqui Honeywood said one of the activities included in the program was a recent careers day where students in attendance were involved in a number of activities including meeting members of specialist police units, inspecting different types of police vehicles and learning about effective communication through the QPS Liaison Unit.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a single vehicle traffic crash at Bald Hills on October 28.
Approximately 10.00pm, a grey Holden sedan was travelling in a southbound direction on the Bruce Highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the vehicle hitting the guardrail and flipping onto its side and coming to a stop against the guardrail in the middle of the highway.
The driver, a 32-year-old Kallangur man was transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.
Sadly, the driver has passed away from his injuries in hospital on November 1.
Investigators from the Forensic Crash Unit are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam vison to please contact police.

Police from Moorooka Station will be joined by local Queensland Fire and Emergency Services officers for a free community information session in Tarragindi this month. Come along to learn about how you can prepare your property for the event of an emergency, such as a storm or bushfire.
When: Friday November 29, 6pm – 8pm
Where: Wellers Hill Bowls Club, 164 Sexton Street, Tarragindi
An unprepared property is not only at risk itself but may also present an increased danger for neighbours. Here are some things you can do:
Structure​

Clear leaves, twigs, bark and other debris from the roof and gutters.
Purchase and test the effectiveness of gutter plugs.
Enclose open areas under decks and floors.
Install fine steel wire mesh screens on all windows, doors, vents and weep holes.
Point LPG cylinder relief valves away from the house.
Conduct maintenance checks on pumps, generators and water systems.
Seal all gaps in external roof and wall cladding.

Senior Police Liaison Officer Doug Peachey has been an integral part of the South Brisbane District Police Liaison Unit for over 15 years and has been a strong advocate of multicultural unity and partnerships across the Region.

He is a man of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent and a testament everything great about our community. Recently, PLO Peachey proudly stood alongside his colleagues from across the Service at a special ceremony acknowledging dedication and service to the job.
PLO Peachey said he believes that his experiences and employment history has been critical in allowing him to support those in need.
“I truly enjoy the job and was because I enjoyed helping people,” PLO Peachey said.

Acacia Ridge detectives are investigating after a man received a gunshot wound at a Calamvale residence last night (Saturday, November 2).
Preliminary investigations suggest that at around 8.05pm the man was alone in an Eduard Place home when he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.
The man contacted a friend who then notified emergency services who transported the 37-year-old Calamvale man to hospital with a non-life -threatening wound.
A crime scene was declared at the residence with police door-knocking the local area.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have noticed anyone loitering or acting suspiciously, or anyone with relevant dashcam or home CCTV to contact them (details below).
