Emergency Services parkrun, Wishart

On your marks, get set…GO!
On Saturday, May 12 the Emergency Services parkrun was held at the Wishart Community Park.
Police, firies and ambos all got together to take part in the event which involved over 300 people.

Three awards were given out with QPS taking out prizes for being first across the line and having the best attendance!
Constable Roberto Padilha from Fortitude Valley Station completing the 5km’s in just over seventeen minutes.

QFES took home the award for best spirit with their strategic presence of their fire truck and use of their sirens to start the race.
Sergeant Mick Morier who organised the event said it was a great opportunity for the QPS to meet together socially outside the context of an emergency situation.
It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all participants.

Say “Ni Hao” to Upper Mount Gravatt front line officers

In the first of its kind, police from the Upper Mount Gravatt Station will be participating in a language course to learn Mandarin Chinese in a Queensland Police Service (QPS) lead initiative aimed at meeting the diverse needs of communities within its patrol division.
With some suburbs in the Upper Mount Gravatt Police Station catchment possessing close to 30% mandarin speaking population, officer’s will participate in a unique language course aimed at policing experiences and language required to maintain positive interaction between police and the Chinese community.
The QPS often aims to recruit and post officers with beneficial and unique skill sets to particular areas that will compliment and use those skills. The completion of this language course will be a unique extension of that concept in order to ensure officers maintain an effective response to varying community needs.

Dangerous driving charge, Ipswich

Three people have been charged after Polair allegedly tracked a stolen car being driven dangerously from Brisbane to Ipswich yesterday.
Patrolling officers started following the stolen vehicle on Boundary Road at Coopers Plains before it allegedly evaded police when they attempted to intercept it on Oxley Road around 12.20pm.
Polair tracked the vehicle as it allegedly drove at high speeds, on the wrong side of the road and through a red light before stopping at a residence on Stirling Circuit in Redbank Plains.
It will be alleged two men exited the vehicle at the residence before a woman drove it to nearby Aldinga Street where she was arrested by police.
A search of the house allegedly uncovered a quantity of ice, drug paraphernalia and cash.
The vehicle was allegedly stolen from a Daisy Hill residence on May 3.

New PLOs train up

New Police Liaison Officers from across Queensland commenced their Initial Employment Training this week at the Queensland Police Academy in Oxley.
Officers from a range of backgrounds, ages and ethnicities travelled as far from as Cairns, Cunnamulla, Yarrabah, Tully and Bundaberg joined their counterparts from Brisbane and Logan to undertake two weeks of tactical training, skills competency and a thorough awareness of policies, procedures and legislation relevant to this unique role.
Chinchilla PLO Robyn Jennings said each new PLO brings unique experiences, skills and insights to support and serve our communities.

This training is a also a great opportunity to network and learn from our peers.
Training Coordinator Teresa Tapsell said Police Liaison Officer Initial Employment Training (PLOIET) course introduces Police Liasion Officers (PLO’s) and Torres Strait Islander Police Support Officers (TSIPSO’s) to the roles and responsibilities as members of the Service.
