Commissioner Ian Stewart officially launched an artwork for the Queensland Police Service called Look to the Stars at Police HQ today.
On the eve of National Reconciliation Week the artwork was produced by Indigenous artist Jenna Lee from Gilimbaa who worked with a specialist reference group from the QPS to inform the artwork.
Commissioner Stewart said the artwork would be used in a myriad of ways to communicate and engage with the community.
“The artwork will adorn polo shirts worn by officers, a vehicle which is destined for Aurukun and even the ceiling of the entrance to police headquarters,” Commissioner Stewart said.
The entrance to Police HQ which features the central constellation and nine stars which represent Robert Peel’s principles.

Police and ViPs gather to mark 20 years of Volunteers in Policing
This week was National Volunteers Week 2018 and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) marked the occasion by celebrating 20 years of volunteers in policing.
The Volunteers in Policing (ViP) program sees volunteers based in local police establishments across Queensland, where they work with officers to assist with customer service, community safety and crime prevention needs in the community.
On Monday, May 21, Ms Jess Pugh MP, joined Assistant Commissioner Brian Wilkins from Brisbane Region to acknowledge the contribution of volunteers in policing at a ceremony at the Police Academy at Oxley.
Assistant Commissioner Wilkins said it was important to acknowledge the valuable contribution of volunteers to the QPS.
“Our volunteers care about their community and they deserve to have their hard work and support recognised here today, as part of National Volunteers Week,” Assistant Commissioner Wilkins said.

Vehicle seized as investigations continue into suspected murder of Sam Price-Purcell
As a result of information provided to investigators a vehicle has been seized in connection to the disappearance and suspected murder of Sam Price-Purcell.
Sam Robert Price-Purcell was last seen in the Mitchelton area on February 16, 2015. At the time of the sighting Sam was getting into a bright yellow 2010 Holden Commodore SS sedan. It is believed he then travelled to the Toowoomba area and has not been seen since.
Mr Price-Purcell 28 (commonly known as Sam Price) was last seen in the Mitchelton area on the afternoon of February 16, 2015.
On 24 May 2018, Detectives investigating Mr Price-Purcell’s disappearance executed a crime scene warrant, resulting in a yellow 2010 Holden Commodore SS sedan being seized and subject of forensic testing at Toowoomba Police Station.
Scientific examinations of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of forensic samples which have been submitted for further analysis.
