Recently, officers from the Upper Mount Gravatt Police Station had the pleasure of being invited to host a special stall at the Griffith University ‘International Student Welcome Market Day’ in the iconic Campus Heart, Nathan.
We had lots of visitors to the QPS stall
Hundreds of students, staff and visitors had the chance to speak to their local police and receive timely information on a range of topics including cyber safety, road safety, personal safety and ways to contact police.
Students from as far China, Japan, South Korea, India, , Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mongolia, Malaysia and Switzerland flocked to take photos with their local officers.

“It’s incredibly important for students to be aware of their rights and responsibilities whilst studying here in Australia,” Senior Police Liaison Officer Huang said.
“We want them to be safe, comfortable and enjoy everything this great State has to offer.”

Police get colourful for HoliFest 2020
Brisbane Holi, the now iconic Festival of Colours once again took place on Saturday, February 29 with thousands of participants taking part in celebrations signifying the ultimate victory of good over evil at Rocks Riverside Park, Seventeen Mile Rocks.

Holi is an annual event for all members of the community to come to a single platform, to colour each other, dance and celebrate peace and harmony.

The presentation was a double celebration as the event marked 10 years for the Sergeant as the school’s official Adopt-A-Cop.
Sergeant Bellos regularly presents these ‘deadly’ awards, which aim to promote the three R’s (Rights, Respect and Responsibility).
“These engagements are integral in fostering respect and understanding between the students, police and community,” Sergeant Bellos said.
“It also allows us to discuss topical issues such as bullying, cyber-bullying and personal safety in a safe and positive environment.”
Well done to all the recipients and congratulations to Sergeant Bellos on this incredible milestone.

Lent begins today on Ash Wednesday when we recall that we were made from dust and to dust we shall return. During lent let us take up the practice of self-denial, prayer, and almsgiving to help us prepare for Easter.

Carina Police Station station badge project
It was almost 12 months to the date that an off-the-cuff remark to one of the members of the Carina Mens Shed led to the restoration of an important part of the Queensland Police Service’s History and in particular, the origins of the Carina Police Station.
During the 19th century, police stations were not identified in any way, so if you wanted to find one you needed some luck or local knowledge. In 1907, Police Commissioner William Cahill and the Deputy Queensland Government Architect designed the Queensland Police Station Badge based on the police cap badge of the time.
In 1911, 300 cast iron badges, each weighing 17 pounds (seven kilograms) and costing four shillings and 10 pence, were manufactured for the Police Department by Harvey & Son, Globe Iron Works, Brisbane and distributed as identification badges to every Police Station in the state.

Serious traffic incident, Parkinson
Police are investigating a serious traffic incident in Parkinson today.
Just before 7am, a utility was travelling south on Algester Road when it crossed to the other side of the road, mounted the kerb and hit a 16-year-old boy before crashing into a fence.
The boy sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment where he is in a serious condition.
The 17-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was not physically injured during the incident.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Coffee with a Cop Moorooka and upcoming events
On Saturday, February 15, Moorooka Police partnered up with the South Brisbane District Crime Prevention Unit and hosted a Coffee with a Cop event at Botanicafe, Moorooka.

Residents took the chance meeting and chatting to their local police and the officer in charge of Moorooka Police Station, Senior Sergeant Tony Collins.
Some were also excited to speak to our Police Liaison officers (PLOs) in their mother tongue.

Currently we have sixteen PLOs working in the South Brisbane District Crime Prevention Unit.

These officers speak a number of languages including Korean, Mandarin, Chinese, Cantonese, Arabic, Punjabi, Swahili, Bravanese, Somali and Vietnamese.

Murder charge, Corinda
Inala Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU) has charged an 18-year-old Inala man following investigations into the death of an 11-month-old girl.
The child passed away in the Queensland Children’s Hospital on February 5 after being revived by QAS on February 1 at a Corinda address.
Inala CPIU and State Crime Command’s Child Trauma Unit conducted a joint homicide investigation over the past three weeks, which included establishing a crime scene in Corinda over the last week.
The 18-year-old man was known to the child and will face the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Recover your bike at West End
On a regular basis, West End Police receive complaints of stolen bicycles.
Not only that, our station property point regularly holds a number of recovered and very likely to be stolen, bicycles which police have been unable to identify the owner of.
Despite our best efforts to return bikes to their rightful owners, in most cases the bikes have not been reported stolen in the first place, making it near impossible to locate the owner.
If you believe your bike has been stolen between March 2019 and February 2020 and remains unrecovered, we urge you to come along to West End Police Station, to view the recovered stolen bicycles currently held to potentially identify your bike.

Update: Death investigation, Camp Hill
Police can confirm a 31-year-old woman involved in a fatal vehicle fire at Camp Hill this morning has died.
The woman succumbed to her injuries at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital early this evening.
Two girls aged six and four along with a three-year-old boy were located deceased inside the vehicle on Raven Street around 8:30am.
A 42-year-old man was also pronounced deceased and investigations surrounding the events which unfolded at the scene are continuing.
