Serious assault, Capalaba

Police are seeking witnesses to a dispute between the drivers of two vehicles in Capalaba this afternoon which resulted in an elderly man being allegedly assaulted.
At around 4pm a 71-year-old man drove his gunmetal grey VW Amarok dual cab ute to the intersection of Redland Bay Road and Neuman Road.
It is then alleged that the occupants of a white Kia Cerato, a man and woman, exited their vehicle and approached him.
A verbal exchange occurred between the elderly man and the woman as he sat in his vehicle, before her male companion allegedly punched him a number of times through the driver’s side window.
Police were called to the scene where the located the 71-year-old man with obvious facial injuries.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to the altercation, or anyone who may have dashcam from the time of the incident to come forward.

Police officer reinstated, Brisbane Region

A 35-year-old constable from Brisbane Region who was stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service will now return to operational duties.
The officer was stood down on April 9, 2019 in relation to inappropriate access to confidential Queensland Police Service information. This matter has now been finalised with the officer receiving a disciplinary sanction.

Large number of COVID-19 infringements issued following car rally at Rochedale

Queensland police were left disappointed and frustrated after issuing 58 COVID-19 infringement notices at a large car rally in Rochedale last night (Saturday, April 5) with State Disaster Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski saying such blatant disregard puts all Queenslanders at risk.
The $1,334 infringement notices for failing to comply with a COVID-19 direction issued by the Chief Health Officer (CHO) were issued to drivers and passengers, males and females, aged between 17 and 30.
Around 10pm police were alerted to a gathering at Brickworks Place involving approximately 150 cars and a large number of people congregated in a warehouse carpark.
Multiple police units responded with many of the cars attempting to flee the area, with some driving across grassland and becoming bogged in the process.
Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski, the State Disaster Coordinator said an integral part of the Queensland Police Service response to the COVID-19 pandemic is to improve the safety of Queenslanders

Sudden death, Acacia Ridge

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death of a man at Acacia Ridge this morning.
Shortly after 5am officers from Acacia Ridge and Centenary detectives responded to reports of an electrocution at an empty Peterkin Street industrial premises.
Upon arrival, a 54-year-old Calamvale man was found unresponsive near an electrical junction-box and pronounced deceased.
A 42-year-old Calamvale man also located at the property was spoken to and assisted police.
The man has been charged with one count of enter premise and commit, stealing, and one count of possessing implements of house breaking.
He has been bailed to appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court on July 24.
Centenary police would like to remind members of the community about the dangers in relation to unauthorised electrical work, and the theft of wire is an extremely dangerous activity.

Further state border restrictions on Gold Coast

Further restrictions are being put in place for state border control on the Gold Coast to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
From 12.01am Friday April 3, 2020 anyone who is not a Queensland resident or considered exempt from the restrictions will not be able to enter the state.
Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler said unless you are a Queensland resident or have an exemption such as you work here or are required to travel for medical reasons, or are involved in freight transportation, you will be refused entry.
“These strict measures are about safe guarding Queensland and minimising the spread of the virus,” Chief Superintendent Wheeler said.
“Community members should avoid all non-essential cross border travel.”
Water barriers and police check points will be put in place and operating at Coolangatta from 12.01am on Friday April 2, 2020 to further control the movement between Queensland and New South Wales.

Lock your doors even when you’re at home

With the current social distancing and isolation requirements, most residential areas have more people at home than usual.
While you are home, please continue to ensure that your doors and windows are locked and garage doors are closed and secured.
Police have seen a continuation of break and enters into homes and secure car parking areas in multi-residential buildings.
Simple security measures like the ones below can help in reducing further break and enters. Make sure:

Security doors are in good working order with triple locks and finger guards installed
Doors are locked with a key even if you are home
Main doors are solid and patio bolts installed on sliding doors
Windows have key operated locks. Always ensure you have good airflow
Keep valuables out of sight including car keys, house keys, mobile phones, handbags and wallets
Bikes, lawn mowers and garden implements such as ladders are locked away. Always keep your garage or shed door closed and

Penalty infringement notices for breaches of Chief Health Officer’s directives

Queensland police now have the option to issue on the spot fines for breaches of Chief Health Officer (CHO) directions to support community efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
An integral part of the Queensland Police Service’s (QPS) response is to ensure compliance with directions particularly around self-isolation, mass gathering, borders, non-essential business activity and now private residence gatherings.
From yesterday, officers now have the option of issuing infringement notices in appropriate circumstances.
Under the direction, homeowners or persons in control of a residence must not allow more than ten people to be present at the residence at any one time and to take reasonable steps to encourage occupants of and visitors to the residence to practise social distancing as much as possible.
This does not apply if more than ten people are present who ordinarily live at the residence.

Serious traffic crash, Hillcrest

A man remains in a critical condition after a motorcycle crash in Hillcrest overnight.
Preliminary inquires indicate at about 8.15pm a Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling west on Johnson Road when it has struck a concrete medium strip. The rider has lost control of the bike and hit a sign post.
A Brisbane man in his forties was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.

Fifth Sunday of Lent – Passion Sunday

While we cannot be together in person, we are united in prayer and faith. Last week we shared with you some ways we can continue to sanctify the Lord’s Day while we cannot assist at Mass, you can read that article here. One thing we can also do is read through the Mass texts for the day. You can find here the extraordinary form propers and the ordinary form propers. The Fathers continue to offer daily Mass, and this Sunday Fr Armstrong will offer Mass for our parishioners at 9:00am, you may unite yourself in prayer with Mass. Dangerous driving charge, Logan to Brisbane

A 34-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences after evading police from Waterford West to Murrumba Downs.
Around 10:30pm last night, police observed a Mitsubishi Lancer driving along Kingston Road which had been allegedly involved in a number of fuel drive-off offences.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, however it allegedly sped off.
Multiple police resources, including PolAir, monitored the vehicle as it travelled from Waterford West, through Brisbane, to Murrumba Downs.
The vehicle crashed into an island on Dohles Rocks Road just after midnight.
Two police vehicles collided with each other while working to intercept the car. Four officers were injured and conveyed to hospital with minor injuries.
An investigation into the collision of the police vehicles will be overseen by the Ethical Standards Command.
A 34-year-old man, who was driving the vehicle, was also transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The Boondall man was charged with four counts of stealing and two counts of dangerous
