Police celebrate Quandamooka Festival
Wynnum’s iconic Wading Pool and surrounds were transformed into a unique display of culture and heritage for the annual Quandamooka Festival and Kunjiel Family Fun Day on Saturday July 21.
The event was hosted by the Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation in partnership with the Quandamooka Festival (Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation) and featured over 30 vibrant art and craft stalls, delicious food, rich displays of culture, traditional performances, games, fashion parades and various children’s programs.
Senior Police Liaison Officer Jacquelene Carter-O’Leary said that this year’s festivities allow us to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of the Elders and traditional Owners, alongside this year’s theme for NAIDOC ‘Because of Her, We Can’.

Unlawful use of a vehicle, Carindale to Sheldon
Police have charged a 23-year-old man with a number of offences after an alleged stolen vehicle travel from Carindale to Sheldon overnight.
Around midnight, police attended a Milanion Crescent residence following reports of a stolen silver Audi Q7 being located at the address.
It will be alleged that on arrival officers noticed a man flee the property on foot before getting into the vehicle and accelerating at speed.
Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device at Scrub Road, however the driver continued at speed on Christian Street and Wecker Road before travelling through a red light onto Ham Road.
The vehicle then travelled along several suburbs onto Mt Gravatt Capalaba Road through another red light before colliding with an unmarked police vehicle which had activated its lights and sirens.
Both front tyres and the rear left tyre were completely shredded before the stolen vehicle was stopped by police in Avalon Road at Sheldon.
