Keep the drones at home when visiting this year’s Ekka

Police wish to provide the following advice from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) on the recreational use of drones/remotely piloted aircraft in/over Ekka grounds:

No night flying;
No flying over people;
No flying closer than 30m to people laterally;
No flying within 500 meters of a helicopter landing site;
No flying above 400FT at the Ekka as this is a controlled airspace;
No flying beyond visual line of sight – this means the ability to locate, orientate and navigate with the naked eye (no FPV); and
No flying in a manner which could be deemed unsafe or hazardous to people, property or other airspace users.

If a drone is spotted, police will be tasked to locate the owner and their details will be taken and provided to CASA for further investigation.

Serious assault, Forest Lake

A woman has been seriously injured following a stabbing incident at Forest Lake this morning.
Preliminary investigations indicate around 3.30am a 46-year-old man entered an address on Collina Crescent and assaulted a 37-year-old woman with a knife.
The woman sustained numerous stab wounds to her upper body.
An 18-year-old man who attempted to prevent the attack was also stabbed multiple times in the arms and hands.
The 46-year-old man then fled the scene.
The injured woman and man were transported to hospital, the woman with critical injuries.
At around 3.50am a 46-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene of traffic crash involving a car and truck on Formation Street at Wacol.
Investigations into the two incidents are continuing.
The woman and man were known to each other.
