Hottest Ekka in 70 years, as Toowoomba carnival threatens to bloom early
Queensland is preparing for the hottest Ekka week since 1946, with unseasonably warm temperatures also causing buds to bloom too early for Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers.
Significant cannabis growhouse located, Heathwood
Police located almost $850,000 worth of cannabis plants during a search of a Heathwood address yesterday afternoon.
As a result of information from members of the public, detectives from the Drug and Serious Crime Group executed a search warrant at the Heathwood address.
On entering the two level unoccupied property, detectives located an active and sophisticated cannabis hydroponic house containing over 170 mature cannabis plants.
Detectives identified the offenders had stolen electricity to mask their activities. The rented property had sustained significant damage and police continue their enquiries to identify the offenders.
“We are seeing this type of hydroponic setup more often, with criminals paying cash to rent directly from the property owner. The offenders have caused tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the property, breaking through doors and walls in order to grow the cannabis.
