Police are currently investigating several day time break-ins in Moorooka area.
To stay safe and protect yourself, your family and your property please do the following before you leave your home:

Key lock all doors and security screens – including those on the balcony or verandah;
Key lock or secure all windows especially those with out security screens;
Hide your valuables and car keys in non-obvious places; and
Ensure items such as ladders and wheelie bins are secured. Offenders will often use these to assist them in breaking into your home

Police also urge resident to re-assess  their home security using our home security checklist
It is important to secure your home in a way that requires the offender to create noise if they were to attempt to break in. Hopefully the noise would alert you  and your neighbours to their presence. Once confronted most offenders run away.

Police are looking for the owner of the drone kit.
This property was located on July 7, on the roadway at the intersection of Andrew Street and Ronald Street, Wynnum.
If you know anyone who has lost their DJI Mavic Pro drone or if you are the lawful owner of the property, please contact police.
Proof of ownership will be required to collect this property.

Police have charged a 16-year-old boy with more than 30 offences after a vehicle was allegedly driven dangerously in the Woodridge and Calamvale area overnight.
At around 9:45pm Polair observed a car which had been reported stolen from Runaway Bay on August 8 being driven on Damalis Street in Woodridge.
Officers tracked the vehicle before successfully deploying tyre deflation devices on Compton Road in Karawatha.
The car then continued to drive before crashing near the intersection of Calam Road and Compton Road in Sunnybank Hills.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle then allegedly fled on foot before being taken into custody in the yard of a nearby property at around 11:50pm.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
A 16-year-old boy from Algester has been charged with 14 counts of burglary, six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts of enter dwelling with intent, two counts each of dangerous operation

A 30-year-old male detective senior constable from Brisbane Region has been suspended from the Queensland Police Service.
The officer is being investigated in relation to the access and release of official and confidential information without an official purpose related to the performance of his duties as a member of the Queensland Police Service.
The officer has also been issued with a Notice to Appear for the criminal charge of Computer Hacking, section 408E of the Criminal Code and is to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 11, 2018.
In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct. This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.

The role of the Police Liaison Officer is as unique as those that make up the Unit.
This week, the team in the South Brisbane District participated in a number of events, presentations and forums, much to the delight of those in attendance.
This is, the week that was:
Rail Safety Orientation Day in Brisbane
Over 50 new migrant students from Milpera State High School had the chance to learn about Brisbane’s Rail and Public Transport network; meet with professional drivers and have the opportunity practice the etiquette involved with using these services in public.
This joint initiative was organised between staff from Milpera, Queensland Rail and the Queensland Police Service and aimed to improve student safety and their confidence.
The initiative also highlighted the correct manner of crossing platforms and educating young people on their rights and responsibility when using public transport.

Officers from the South Brisbane District had the chance to speak with staff at the Kyabra Community Association in Runcorn earlier this week and provided a presentation on their insights on engaging with diverse multicultural communities.
Speakers included Police Liaison Officers from the Indian, Muslim and African community, as well the District’s Cross Cultural Liaison Officer Sergeant Jim Bellos APM OAM.

“Our Region has experienced a significant increase in the number of new residents, particularly those from diverse multicultural communities” Sergeant Bellos said.
“The cultural and religious diversity of the Brisbane Region is further highlighted by fact there are over 220 communities that speak over 150 languages, and also represent in excess of 130 religious faiths practised.”
As pillars of peace, respect and stability, it’s great that we as a Service can contribute to supporting our friends from the Kyabra Community Association with engaging the rich tapestry that is South Brisbane.

On Thursday August 9, Annerley Police and Riverside Volunteers in Policing visited Fairfield Gardens Shopping Centre.
It was great to catch up with the local community to discuss the importance of home security and the various ways that police can be contacted.
We shared information with people about Policelink 131 444 the non-urgent reporting number, and our emergency triple ‘000’ number.
We also shared this information with local businesses and the effectiveness of security cameras in helping Police to investigate and solve offences.

Police from South Brisbane District Crime Prevention Unit urge residents in Eight Mile Plains and surrounding suburbs to re-assess their home security.
At present offenders are committing what police call, FORCED break-ins.
Entry have been gained by removing a sliding door from its track, smashing windows and doors. Offence has occurred during the day, in the afternoon and evening.
Once offenders were inside, they conducted an untidy search. Offenders have been stealing foreign currency, monies, jewelries, alcohol beverages, food, power tools and expensive items.
To reduce yourself a chance of becoming a victim, you can simply use our home security audit list to improve your home security.
Get to know your neighbours as well. If you suspect anyone or a vehicle is acting suspiciously in the area, please write down their descriptions and contact Policelink on 131 444.

Police Bike Squad
To kick off Road Safety Week, which is being held between August 27 and 31, police from the Morningside Police Station are hosting a bike safety educational event for children at the Colmslie Beach Reserve on Sunday August 26, between 11am and 3pm.
Come down and join your local police for a friendly bike ride around the bike track.
Children will need to bring their bikes, scooters and helmets to the track to partake in this activity, we hope to provide a proactive and educational day for the children, while also having lots of fun.
Morningside Police are proud to work with our community to build partnerships and promote road safety with our kids.
