Living safely in your apartment

When it comes to security, high-rise buildings and apartments are just as vulnerable as other residential homes.
No matter how many security measures have been put in place, poor security habits by residents can put the whole building at risk.
Good habits such as care, vigilance and common sense cost nothing and are highly effective in helping reduce crime.
Some strategies to help prevent crime and keep everyone safe in multi-residential dwellings are:

Know your building manager – have the manager’s number in your phone in case you need to contact them in an emergency;
Know your neighbour – a good neighbour can contact Police to provide information about suspicious activity;
If you are accessing the building – either on foot or in your vehicle – do not let a stranger enter in behind you. If they are a legitimate resident, they will have their own access fob/key;
If a stranger requests entry through the intercom system,

New cameras to make Queensland roads safer

New combined red light speed cameras will be installed at high risk intersections statewide from today.
Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating said the sites were carefully selected by the Queensland Police Service and Transport and Main Roads based on the number and severity of speed and red-light-related road crashes at these locations.
“The Queensland Government is committed to road safety and the reduction of road trauma on our communities,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“By working together, we will continue to create safer roads for Queenslanders.”
Assistant Commissioner Keating said the combined red light speed camera technology would detect motorists who disobey the red traffic light, as well as motorists who speed through the intersection. This means cameras will not only detect a motorist speeding through red lights but also green and amber lights.
“All motorists have a responsibility to drive safely to ensure all Queenslanders get to their destinations safely,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“These cameras will

The inaugural Blue Family Cup

Much has been said about the camaraderie police share.
We police are often a small minority in the events and incidents we experience, yet when times are tough we band together.
The experiences we share, the sights we see, the things we hear, however sad, however traumatic, produce a toughness like no other.
The people I work with come from all walks of life, all shapes and sizes, all religions, all sexualities and all grew up with differing socio-economic backgrounds, yet when we all wear the same uniform, we are one.
A fitting example is the inaugural touch football competition played on Wednesday, September 19, aptly named ‘The Blue Family Cup’ which saw police from the South Brisbane District battling it out for supremacy at the Sunnybank Rugby Club.
The Blue Family Cup
The event was the brain-child of Senior Sergeant Murray Crone, Officer in Charge of Upper Mt Gravatt Police Station and one of the South Brisbane
