Annual Statistical Review 2016/17 – South Brisbane District
South Brisbane District overall crime decreases
South Brisbane District Officer Acting Chief Superintendent Mick Niland today welcomed the release of the Queensland Police Service’s Statistical Review which demonstrated a reduction in fraud, liquor and drug offences across the district.
The Statistical Review represents a comprehensive insight into the level and nature of crime reported for each police district throughout Queensland.
The overall crime rate across the South Brisbane District from 2015/16 to 2016/17 decreased by 1.3 percent to 57,063 offences.
Over the 10 year period from 2007/08 to 2016/17, South Brisbane District recorded a decrease in the rate of offences against the person and against property.
“When adjusted for population growth, the overall crime rate of offences against the person over the past 10 years decreased by 19.1 percent and offences against property decreased by 15.3 percent,” Acting Chief Superintendent Niland said.

Police smash car stealing syndicate, Acacia Ridge
South Brisbane District detectives have charged three men after closing down a car stealing syndicate operating out of Acacia Ridge.
Officers were tracking a stolen vehicle which led them to an industrial site on Bradman Street on Tuesday, October 10.
It will be alleged the vehicle was located amongst 100 other cars at the premises.
Police subsequently declared a crime scene with officers searching all vehicles on site.
Eleven cars were located which had been allegedly stolen this year from locations in Maroochydore, Rothwell, Chandler, Tivoli, Kuraby, Slacks Creek, Underwood and Gaven.
Police also discovered two engines which had been allegedly stolen from Pimpama on August 3 and Shailer Park on September 29.
Three Underwood men aged 25, 30 and 32, are all scheduled to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on November 14.
The trio has each been charged with 11 counts of unlawful possession of a motor vehicle.
