Serious assault charge, Rochedale

A man has been charged following an alleged altercation on the side of a busy highway in Rochedale yesterday afternoon.
It will be alleged at around 5pm a minor traffic crash occurred outbound on the Pacific Motorway near Juliette Street between two vehicles before one of the cars sped away.
The vehicles both continued in the same direction before the occupants of the car that was struck, a 68-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man, saw the other car allegedly involved pulled over on the side of the motorway at Rochedale.
The man and woman exited their car to take photographs of the other vehicle when the alleged driver, a 40-year-old man, became abusive and assaulted the pair by kicking and attempting to bite them.
The man then fled the scene however was arrested a short time later in Rochedale South after allegedly attempting to break in to a vehicle on Algona Street.

Meeting our future cops

Yesterday, our officers had a chance to meet a little future cop, Max Cossio outside the Bunnings store in Cannon Hill.
Max has a lot of family members in Law Enforcement and he loves wearing his police cap.
We believe in 18-years time, we may see Max in the job!

Later in the afternoon Senior Constable Sherry Ho attended Faith Lutheran College to talk about Schoolies.
She met one of the Year 12 students, Seriah Crooks who wants to become a police officer. Seriah has set her goals to join the job in 2021.
We wish her the best of luck and hopefully will see her in the line of the duty in a very near future!

Appeal for witnesses, Wynnum West

Brisbane Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for anyone who may have seen a yellow Triumph Daytona motorcycle or a white Hyundai Getz hatchback prior to a crash on Tuesday, October 23.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Youngs Road and Kianawah Road, Wynnum West at approximately 6.20pm and resulted in both vehicles catching fire.
Prior to the collision, the Hyundai was travelling east on Youngs Road and the motorcycle was travelling north on Kianawah Road.
The rider of the motorcycle, a 32-year-old man from Wynnum West, was seriously injured in the crash.
The Hyundai driver, an 18-year-old woman, was injured, her 18-year-old male passenger was not injured.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who saw the motorcycle or car prior to the crash to contact them (details below).

Officers towered by The Great Khali

Today, officers from the QPS had the opportunity to catch up with wrestling royalty when they were towered by the impressive, The Great Khali, the world famous, Indian-born wrestler.
Inspector Michael Dowdy, Sergeant Jim Bellos and Police Liaison Officer Ricky Lashland, are all big supporters of the Indian community through their work in the QPS Cross Cultural Liaison Unit.
Measuring in at over two meters in height and just over 150kg, Dalip stood tall amongst the officers who admit to being fans of the wrestling champion.

Before making his wrestling debut in 2000, the Great Khali was an Indian Police Officer from the State of Punjab and said he still feels a special kinship with his brothers and sisters in uniform.
The team was surprised to hear that he’s still enlisted in the Punjabi Police Service and holds the rank of Inspector.

Above and beyond the call of duty

At its heart, policing is about looking out for the community, and sometimes it means going that extra mile.
Last week, Constable Matt Boswell and Senior Constable Christopher Couch attended a job to assist an elderly South Brisbane resident who had disturbed an offender as he tried to break into her home.
They arrived to find the door had been ripped off its hinges, and so the resident was unable to secure her home.
Constable Boswell said the woman was very grateful to see the officers.
“It was clear the lady was very shaken from the ordeal,” Constable Boswell said.
“However, the first thing she said was ‘Do you want a cup of tea?’.
“That was very thoughtful.”
Police found out she had been forced to cancel her plans for the day as a result of the incident.

Man charged with historical sex offences against children – North Brisbane.

As part of Operation Quebec Reef, detectives from North Brisbane CIB South and the Child Abuse and Sexual Crime Group executed a search warrant today at a Sandgate address.
Detectives subsequently charged a 55-year-old Sandgate man with historical offences relating to four child victims, with the incidents allegedly occurring in the North Brisbane area between 1991 to 2005.
Police believe the man previously worked in the Clayfield, Virginia and Nudgee areas as a swimming and triathlon coach.
The 55-year-old man has been charged with one count of rape, twelve counts of indecent dealing with a child under the age of 16, three counts of procuring child to commit an indecent act and one count of common assault.
The man is to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Carina Police – Coffee with a Cop!

Officers from the Carina Police Station and Carindale Police Beat would like to invite members of the local community to a ‘Coffee with a Cop’ morning at the Westfield Carindale Shopping Centre.
Event time: Thursday, November 1 from 9am until 11am at Mrs Field’s Cookies.
The event is held in partnership with the Westfield Carindale Shopping Complex and will be utilising the Mrs Fields cafe on the Ground Floor next to the escalator.
These types of events are designed to remove any barriers around speaking to and interacting with police.
They are less formal then attending a police station and we actively encourage you to come and have a coffee on us to discuss any matters of concern.
We will have a number of police officers on hand, along with our very special VIPs (Volunteers in Police) to provide advice on personal and residential Security.

Armed robbery and pursuit, North Brisbane

A man is assisting police with their inquiries following the armed robbery of Waterworks Road service station at The Gap.
Initial information indicates around 1.20am a metal pole was allegedly used to threaten an employee before the alleged offender made off with a sum of money, fleeing in an allegedly stolen white Ford Focus hatchback.
An attempt was made to intercept the vehicle however it was discontinued due to concerns for the safety of the public.
Police deployed a tyre deflation device (TDD) at Windsor however the driver drove around the TDD.
Shortly after, officers deployed another TDD on Gympie Road, Chermside which was successful.
The man continued to drive on deflated tyres before abandoning the car in a yard on Gympie Road, Aspley.
He then allegedly assaulted and threatened several residents with two people treated for minor injuries.

Update – Suspicious behaviour appeal, Murrumba Downs

Police are making a public appeal for any information as investigations continue after a man approached a 12-year-old girl in Murrumba Downs last Monday.
As part of their appeal police will be at Duffield Road Kallangur from 7.30am to 8.30am where they will be seeking any information from the public.
Officers will be speaking to motorists and asking for anyone who may have dash cameras that were operating around the time of the incident.
Around 7.40am on Monday, October 15 the girl was walking along Duffield Road when the girl was approached by a man in a vehicle.
The man threatened the girl before fleeing the scene when the girl ran. He was last seen driving south along Duffield Street.
The girl was not physically injured during the incident.
The vehicle is described as a small blue car.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance and aged in his late 40s or early 50s.
