Police from Coorparoo Station would like to invite members of the public to come and have a coffee and a chat with their local constabulary in Coorparoo, this Saturday, November 10.
The location of this event will be at Merlo Coffee, The Woolworths Centre, 4/19 – 41 Harries Road, Coorparoo.
Police will be at the venue between 11am and 12:30pm and would love to take the opportunity to meet with you, have a chat and shout you a coffee!

Opportunistic thieves have demonstrated a propensity to target pedestrians using handheld electronic devices.
This is because our ability and preparedness to respond to potential danger is reduced when listening to music or looking down at our phones.
Police would like the community to include these safety tips to their routines to improve their overall safety:

Avoid low lit and secluded areas that make you feel unsafe whenever possible;
Where possible let someone know where you are headed if you’re moving about alone;

Behind the event: Police live up to their ‘reputation’ ensuring safety as Taylor Swift takes Gabba by storm

Overlooking the concert
Last night US superstar Taylor Swift performed in front of a 42,000+ strong crowd in one of the biggest concert events in Brisbane for 2018.
To ensure the enormous event was safe, a strong QPS presence was deployed to the venue to ensure patrons were able to enjoy the concert.
The police presence at the stadium required many months of planning with Sergeant Kirsten Atkin taking on the role of Principal Planner to ensure the operation took place smoothly and all the necessary resources were available.
Inspector Cecilia Vine was the Operations Commander for the event oversaw the deployment of 98 officers, including traffic personnel, to the Gabba grounds and was responsible for the entire QPS presence at the event.

Morningside police enforcing the Fatal Five during Melbourne Cup and Tay Tay!

A reminder to our Morningside community to keep the Fatal Five in mind during today’s Melbourne Cup festivities – and not to mention our visit from Taylor Swift tonight at the Gabba!
We will be out in force today and tonight conducting RBT’s and enforcing the Fatal Five – drug and drink driving, Speed, Seat belts, fatigue and distraction.
So if you get pulled over, don’t evade us and ‘Runaway’ like a ‘horse that’s done the bolt’.
The ‘Best Solution’ is to be part of the ‘Winners circle’ and don’t drink and drive! We will not be putting on any ‘blinkers’ today!
Local police will be ‘Ace High’ with no drink driving or traffic crashes. We want to be the ‘Magic Circle’ in Brisbane, keeping our community safe!
So rather than being banished to the ‘Pig pen’, be a ‘frontrunner’ and don’t drink and drive!

Who hit my car?

Morningside Police have received in excess of 80 reports of ‘hit and run’ traffic crashes this year where drivers have failed to exchanged details when involved in a traffic crash.
Senior Sergeant Marilyn Jackson, Officer in Charge Morningside Station would like to remind road users that a ‘hit and run traffic crash’ refers to any motor vehicle crash where one driver leaves the scene without exchanging details or checking to see if everyone involved is okay.
A hit and run traffic crash also includes when someone hits your parked car and doesn’t leave their details.
Morningside Police are urging drivers to exchange details when involved in a traffic crash and if you hit a parked car, leave your details where the other driver can see them.
If our investigations reveal that you failed to provide your personal particulars at the scene of a crash, you can be issued a Traffic Infringement Notice under s93 Transport Operations

QPS says thank you to community leaders

Officers from across the South Brisbane District came out in force to say a special thank you to over 150 community, faith and cultural leaders at a special morning tea at the Calamvale Hotel earlier this month.
The host, Chief Superintendent Brian Swan APM, along with the SBD management team, Officers in Charge, Police Liaison Officers and Volunteers in Police were all on hand to celebrate the contribution made by the wonderful men and women in our community.
Uncle Sam Watson performed a passionate Acknowledgement to Country and Inspector Tim Partrige entertained the crowd as the Master of Ceremonies.
Chief Superintendent Brian Swan addressed the audience on the his role as the new District Officer and offered an insight to the challenges that we as a community are facing.
“We must not get complacent with the status quo; we must always be moving forward,”Chief Superintendent Swan said.

Paul Ziebarth Memorial Community Shield 2018

The inaugural Paul Ziebarth Memorial Community Shield was held on Wednesday October 31 at the El Salvador Soccer Club, Yeronga.
The initiative was forged in the loving memory of the late Superintendent Paul Ziebarth, one of Queensland Police’s finest officers who worked tirelessly towards achieving a united community for everyone and ensuring ongoing education for the youth of today.
The shield epitomises the QPS commitment to respect, fairness and inclusion for all people  across our great State.
A number of local schools with large Cultural and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) students participated in the featured football match and crossed, volleying and striking their way through a friendly competition in order to claim victory in the world game.
Congratulations to the winning school, Glenala State High School, who defeated the Australian International Islamic College three to one, to be crowned the inaugural champions.

Update: serious assault investigation, Bulimba

Police have charged a man following the serious assault of another man in Bulimba in October.
A 21-year-old man was allegedly punched in the head following an altercation outside a hotel shortly after midnight on Oxford Street on October 21.
He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
A 26-year-old Macgregor man has been charged today with one count of Grievous Bodily Harm and was expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

Thank you Moorooka for meeting us over a Coffee

Inspector Michael Dowdy for South Brisbane District, the Honourable Mark Bailey, member for Miller and Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Senior Sergeant Tony Collins OIC of Moorooka Police Station, Volunteers in Policing, Crime Prevention Officers, Police Liaison Officers and local Councillor Steve Griffiths.
On Saturday November 3, police were joined by the Honourable Mark Bailey, Minister for Transport and Main Roads, and local Councillor, Steve Griffiths, for Coffee with a Cop in Moorooka.
All in all, it was a great morning and it was great to see so many residents interested in policing, home security, vehicle security and personal safety. Police also received a lot of questions about traffic and encouraged residents to give themselves a road rules refresher!
