More bike parking is planned for Boggo Road Village, according to cycling advocates who recently visited the precinct and spoke with a Stockwell Property Group employee about what facilities could work for different types of bicycles.

Brisbane South Bicycle Users Group inspected the village to look at its existing bike parking and cycling connections, including the segregated bikeway running through the centre of the precinct.
The group said it was also pleased to see the connection towards the Yamma Bridge, which is expected to provide another cycling link when it opens. The bridge is being built as a shared pedestrian and cycle connection between the new Boggo Road station and the Princess Alexandra Hospital precinct.
Boggo Road Village includes an IGA supermarket, eateries, and other shops, giving people arriving by bike several everyday destinations within the precinct.
More Parking Under Consideration
At the time of the visit, one bike rack had been installed near the front of the IGA. Brisbane South BUG said a Stockwell Property Group employee involved in the final works at the village advised that additional bike parking was planned elsewhere in the centre. The group also discussed different bike parking designs with the Stockwell representative, including options that could accommodate a wider range of bicycles.
According to Brisbane South BUG, Stockwell was also considering alternative bike-locking options. The group said it had since shared information with Stockwell that could assist with its decision-making around the facilities.
Brisbane South BUG also noted that the existing bike rack had been secured using tamper-resistant bolts, which it said were also being used on other furniture being installed around the village.
Advocates Seek Ongoing Input
The visit was part of Brisbane South BUG’s broader engagement with property developers and others involved in residential and commercial projects about cycling infrastructure. The group said bike parking needed to be safe, practical and visible for people using bicycles for everyday trips.
It also argued that additional bike parking could support cycling as an alternative to driving for short local journeys, while pointing out that bike parking generally requires less space than car parking.
Brisbane South BUG said it was keen to continue its dialogue with Stockwell and share its expertise on cycling infrastructure. The group said the planned additional parking would add to the facilities already available for people cycling to the village, with the final arrangements still to be determined.
