Annerley residents who rely on nearby railway stations will face more than three weeks of changed travel, with normal Beenleigh line services suspended through Yeronga, Fairfield, Yeerongpilly and Dutton Park during a major rail shutdown.
The disruption will run from 19 September until 11 October and affect a long section of the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines. Translink has advised passengers to allow extra travel time, warning that some journeys may take significantly longer than usual and that the best travel option may change during the closure.
Nearby stations lose normal train services
From Saturday 19 September to Monday 5 October, buses will replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road. Normal Beenleigh line services will not run through Yeronga, Fairfield, Yeerongpilly or Dutton Park during that period.
The closure also affects Moorooka and Rocklea further south. Passengers travelling through the corridor will need to use rail replacement buses or other public transport connections, with Boggo Road at the northern end of the affected section.
Arrangements change from Tuesday 6 October, when Beenleigh and Gold Coast trains return as a combined service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon. Rail replacement buses will continue between Banoon and Boggo Road until Sunday 11 October, leaving Yeronga, Fairfield, Yeerongpilly and Dutton Park within the bus-replacement section for the full shutdown.
Several nearby rail options affected at once
Annerley has no railway station of its own, so residents who use rail generally connect through surrounding stations or bus services.
The September closure removes normal train services from all four stations at the same time. Passengers travelling through one of those stations before continuing towards the CBD will need to account for replacement services and possible additional transfers during the shutdown.
Planned closures may also be subject to change.
Yeerongpilly junction enters round-the-clock rebuild
The extended closure will allow major construction to proceed at Yeerongpilly Junction, where more than 750 metres of track will be removed and reconfigured.
Work is scheduled around the clock from 19 September to 11 October and will include removal and reinstatement of track and sleepers, resurfacing, earthworks and replacement of overhead electrical infrastructure between Yeerongpilly and Moorooka.
Construction traffic will also affect parts of Yeerongpilly. Temporary traffic holds are planned on Wilkie Street between Crichton Street and Station Road while trucks and heavy equipment enter and leave the rail corridor. Residents may notice increased noise, vibration and dust while the works are underway.
Dutton Park corridor works continue
Dutton Park will also remain active during the rail shutdown, with work scheduled in the corridor between Ensign Avenue and the Southern Tunnel Portal.
Crews are due to install foundations and masts for overhead electrical equipment, signalling infrastructure, cable routes and drainage, while carrying out excavation, track maintenance and finishing works on rail access roads. Intermittent lane closures are possible on Fenton Street and Ensign Avenue to allow construction vehicles into the corridor.
Major station rebuilds at Dutton Park, Fairfield, Yeronga, Yeerongpilly, Rocklea and Salisbury have been completed and the stations have reopened. Moorooka remains the only station in the Dutton Park-to-Salisbury rebuilding program still undergoing major construction.
Shutdown scheduled to end on 11 October
The extended Beenleigh and Gold Coast line closure is scheduled to finish on Sunday 11 October. Passengers should check Translink for the latest service arrangements before travelling, particularly as planned closures may change.
