Police have seen an increase in a series of counterfeit currency offences across the South Brisbane area recently.
These incidents have primarily involved counterfeit $50 or $100 notes and have been used in an attempt to pay for goods or services.

Business owners and employees are encouraged to be vigilant. Rather than just taking a note, a good habit to get into is to assess it prior to placing it in the till.
Often counterfeit notes are made from paper that can quite easily be identified as fake. Ask yourself the question ‘does it feel or look right?’
It’s difficult to make a counterfeit note look genuine and a closer inspection will help you identify a fake note from a genuine one.
