In the past week, Moorooka Police have seen an increased number of stolen registration number plate offences committed in the Moorooka, Coopers Plains and Archerfield areas.
Stolen registration plates are used in a range of offences by offenders attempting to disguise their identity or legitimacy of motor vehicle/s they use when committing offences.
Thefts often occur when a vehicle is left parked in isolated locations including long term car parks, shopping centres or on-street parking.
Simple steps to reduce the risk of your registration/number plates being stolen:
Secure your registration/number plates to your vehicle with tamper resistant, anti-theft, one-way screws;
Park in a locked garage – where possible;
Park in your driveway (remember to lock your vehicle; remove all valuables);
Where parking on the street is unavoidable, try to park in well-lit, populated areas;
Check your vehicle regularly to ensure your number plates are secure;
Report all thefts of registration/number plates immediately to Policelink on 131 444.
